Good rain gear?

What would you guys suggest for good yet affordable rain gear?

Helly hanson classic shell from marks work warehouse. Durable stretchy and waterproof. I think they run around 115 for a jacket. Had mine for years and used it for tree planting, construction and tons of other outdoor and rugged type activities and it's as good as the day I bought it.

Thanks Larry. I can see HH having some good stuff. I should have mentioned also quiet...for hunting situations.

It's the quietest rain gear I've come across. Hunted in it as well. Wouldn't recommend any waterproof breathable like gortex etc if quiet is a priority as they can be quite loud (and expensive)

The Helly rubber suit really is good. Its pretty quiet, since it is rubbery, not crinkly like most of the cheaper gore-tex stuff is. It just gets really hot when walking, but if I had to sit on a peak in the rain, its what I would go for every time.

If its good enough for the fishing boat guys, I think it will be good enough for me.

Breathable = not waterproof.

I have Kryptek, is comfortable and works well. Also very packable.

I don't own any of the rain gear, but I've been very impressed with Eddie Bauer down products. Its a fraction of the Kuiu/Sitka/First Lite stuff with comparable (better?) specs. Check out their lineup - I think you'll be happy with price and performance.

Best value I found in rain gear was poncho in Jasper. $2.50 and you could put it in your pocket, even had a hood.

The boys and I are currently using the Cabelas XPS jackets - stretchy and comfortable.

It sounds like it's comparable to the HH gear. Around the same price.

I just noticed after an extended period of time exposed in the rain (1 hour or so) the XPS jacket and pant start to absorb some water and it becomes pretty humid below. Not sure if thats the case with all. However I did purchase a spray thats supposed to aid in repelling water...

I'm selling a very lightly used First Lite Boundary Stormtight Jacket. Maybe it would be a good option for you. Its as waterproof a jacket as I've ever worn and breathes as good if not better than anything on the market

I noticed that in heavy rain with mine as well. Hard to describe, other than it feels a bit soggy...

Marmot Precip is packable, lightweight and reasonably priced. Great value gear, but I wouldn't call it quiet or what you wanna wear busting brush.
