Default farm equipment ombudsman

does anyone know if there is a separate ombudsman for dealing with complaints about dealers and used farm equipment? Buddy at work bought a J Deere from a Massey Dealer in Medicine Hat, broke down and the dealer wont do anything about it, it cost him 5 grand an hour to cut his hay crop the way it worked out.

used equipment might be a hard one to chase unless a warranty was written on the bill of sale it is usually as is unless the dealer is someone you have spent alot of money with then they might help you out a bit..

Was there a warranty implied or written? Used equipment is normally sold "as is were is".

I currently work for a farm equipment manufacture. I hate to tell you but as far as used equipment goes your buddy my be SOL. About the only way he could get around it is if at the time of sale there was something in writing about warranty.
If the tractor was really new and still under the original manufactures warranty, he should have dealt with the local John Deere dealer who would have dealt with the warranty through John Deere.

a 'brand name' doesn't always protect one from independant dealers, and unless there was specific performance gaurantees or warranty, you buddy made a poor purchasing decision.

If there was verbal or implied performance, of which the item fell short, then it would be upon the dealer to make up the shortfall. Coaxing them to take on that responsibility may need to get inventive however. Sit down negotiations are always first.
