Default A kids first fish

So I took the day off work on Tuesday to accompany my daughter and her out of school care group for a day of fishing on the river. We rented rods and some kids had their own, us included. Didn't have much luck in the morning but after lunch things improved. My daughter hooked and landed about a 2 pound walleye, which impressed all the other kids. The next fish was caught by her friend who has never fished before let alone seen a live fish. I thought she was snagged since the drag was very loose, upon getting to her side realized she had a fish on so I tightened her drag. She said here you do it, I said......no its your fish bring him in.Seeing the fish........big walleye she got all excited, all the kids gathered around us. She got it to the shore and the hook came out but since it was in the boulders I was able to grab hold of it and upon lifting it out of the water realized it was a 6 pound walleye, easily. All the kids are yelling and screaming, the girl is just beside herself. I said to her, come her for a picture she said....No its looking at me, itll bite me......No! So, I said come stand behind my shoulder because you are getting in this picture. Fish was released unharmed and this little girl was very proud. At the start of the day she wouldn't even touch a worm, but by the end of the day she was picking up worms and had caught her very first fish. She waited til the next day to tell her parents because she wanted to show her mom and dad the picture.

What a great day to book off work.

Side note: helping 12 kids fish was a workout but very rewarding, there was a drink waiting for me at the end of the day.

Nice story. Taking the time to help someone learn about fishing is very commendable! Good on you!

Default Congratulations and kudos

on just being willing to volunteer your time and effort for such an event, let alone carrying it off with success. 12 children in that milieu is a very scary proposition to carry out. You will have created at least one or two who will want to pursue it further.

Wow, this sounds like quite an adventure for both you and the kids. Hope you had a couple other adults helping you with a dozen children fishing for the first time. Very good of you to donate some time like that.
