My cousin and I came across a similar scene about 10 years ago.

Brutal scene, the one buck had been largely eaten by coyotes and crows, and the other one had obviously been fending off the attacks and was barely alive.

My first instinct was to simply put it out of it's misery and go on my way, but caution got the better of us and we ended up spending the better part of an afternoon leading the F&W officer to the site. All that, and I ended up just putting it out of its misery anyway. We did make an excellent contact in the officer though.
