Default Wabamun Pike fishing Jan 16 2011

Braved the cold, snow and floodwater at Wabamun today with a friend. Had a good time despite the weather and caught my personal best pike to date

My first catch of the day!

Second...

I know they aren't giant monster fish but considering my biggest pike before this was a lot smaller i'm happy with them

and the last good one,

Nice Pike! THat pumps me up, I'm tryin Wab for the first time ever tomorrow as well. I'm all set with my polar tip ups and got some fresh herring for bait. I like the fresh bait because there's no fin damage like with frozen.

Anyhow, thanks for gettin me pumped! Did you get a measurement or weight on those bad boys?

Hope you got high waterproof boots

In spots we had 1 foot of flood water under a foot of snow, stick to any skidoo trails you can find, it's a brutal slog pulling a sled on foot through that junk. Don't even THINK about trying to drive on.

The three in my pics are definitely less than 36" but I'm pretty sure the two bigger ones are over 30" My buddy did catch two bigger ones that were approx 37" but no weights on any of them.

X2 don't drive on. I'm pretty sure it took us well over an hour to get the Jeep and 3 trucks off the ice last night and my feet got soaked!

Great looking pike!! I got skunked yesterday, and man was it ever an adventure getting off the ice. I have no regrets I would drive on again today I would just stay west of the main pier and avoid the east.

Yeah mike. that was a fun day. 14 pike and 5 over 10lbs. Even though my feet got soaked in the first 5 minutes of walking out. lol. We pulled some nice pike out that day. Alberta took first place in the bountyfishing tourny. some nice easy money in my pocket. This was the biggest we got of the day, approx 16 lbs, nice fatty. measured out at just under 37inch. Bounty took an inch off for because the measureing tape was not quite parallel. but still a good haul all in all.

Sounds like miserable and wet was a good trade off for a great day on the ice. Some really nice snot monsters.

I've been cold and wet and been skunked before - that's much worse.

Great fish boys.

Amen to that

Actually it was just the slog to and from the truck that sucked. Once we got set up it was all good. That being said I wasn't the one running through all that junk to get to the further of our tip-ups
