Default Sound Moderator Petition

Did a quick search and didn't see this posted here.

It's a petition supported by Brad Trost (CPC leadership candidate) for the government to de-prohibit suppressors for firearms. Similar to what is happening in the US.

https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Peti...Petition=e-575

Sign it! I know petitions don't do much, but if there's enough support maybe in 2019 it can happen.

Does anybody have info regarding whether or not suppressors (in areas where legal), have an impact on poaching?

Doubt there would be much of a difference in noise levels and therefore "easier" to poach. I read that there is a 25% reduction in dB.

You can hunt with cans in Montana and all my coworkers have yet to run across someone using a can to poach. I've only heard of them running into 2 hunters who actually had them. The thing is poachers aren't going to pay the $$ to buy something to do an illegal act they are already doing. My money is they would become more beneficial as range accessories then hunting aids.

Thanks. Frankly, I suspect they would be used very little by anybody.

Signed. I'd buy one if legal, or possibly 2.

I have several rifles fitted with suppressors in New Zealand, they have applications were they are very useful, Gopher's, and rifle range work, being two likely ones, up here,

I see little point, on large game, and only use mine on my 2506, 7x57 or .264 win, when on a control job, were multiple animals are to be shot, around livestock, when hunting with others or when hunting over a dog.
You commented above about poaching, not really of any advantage, as reduce noise by about 25%, it is much harder to tell sound direction, on a moderated rifle thought.
Very common, to find someone in New Zealand hunting, with a suppressed, short action, .243, 708, 308 etc, chopped to 16-18" with a over barrel suppressor, we call these types of rifles bush pigs, short handy, and bit less noisy, so don't disturb other game as much,

Anyone part of a site like this in Saskatchewan or Newfoundland? Numbers lacking in those provinces, and both have a lot of hunters and shooters. need to get the word out.

I signed one of the paper copies at a store. Could anyone here who has even been on an industrial worksite even imagine what the result would be of trying to ban a logical, safe and effective piece of safety equipment would be? They protect hearing and noise reduce pollution, what's the logic behind specifically banning them?

I know, I know, to those people the sky is perpetually falling.

Poachers? Criminals? Pointless argument, if people are involved in nefarious activities do you think they really care if sound suppressors are legal?? What next put speed limit signs up and specific hunting seasons? That will stop criminal activity, LOL. Good folks that obey the law are looking for a practical application not criminal intent.

I don't understand how this is a right vs left issue. Why are you trying to make it one?
