Default Chet's 2007 Deer Pics

Is there anything more fun than hunting? I was able to do a lot of it again in 2007 thanks to a generous holiday schedule and a very understanding wife (thanks honey…. Sorry I was in Saskatchewan on our anniversary).

I didn’t have much luck bowhunting and rifle season was pretty slow as well until the last few days.
I shot this Whitetail on the second last day of my Alberta season. I wasn’t planning on shooting a Whitetail because I was searching hard for Mule Deer since it took me 4 years to draw a tag for one but this guy presented a great opportunity that I couldn’t resist.

As I lay in bed that night with one day of Mule Deer hunting left I wondered what to do. I had spotted a real nice Mule buck a couple weeks earlier and had been able to find him in the same spot a couple times after that but I had passed on him with the faint hope of finding a truly exceptional buck. My dad was with me one time and we watched him at 60 yards for several minutes and he thought I was nuts when I decided not to shoot him. I felt that he was the best buck I had found all year and since the next day would be my last day, that I would try to find him again. Sure enough he was there again and I was able to get him. I am really happy with this buck. He is a bit bigger than I initially thought and I realize I was very, very lucky to find him again.

The next day I was off to the home of the Grey Cup to try my luck in Saskatchewan for Whitetails. The hunting was tough due to nasty weather but late in the week conditions improved and I was very lucky to take a buck that I am thrilled with on the last day. As you can see from the photo I got scoped pretty hard by my rifle when I shot my buck. Fortunately the buck sustained more severe injuries. In 20 years of shooting center fire rifles I had never had that happen but I guess buck fever can do strange things to a guy. This buck was my anniversary present I guess and my rifle was kind enough to give me a kiss with it.

I hope everyone else had as much fun as I did out there. Thanks for posting your stories and pics.

Here's a few more pics of my bucks:

Default Been There, Done That!

Nice animals! Way to go! As for the Bushnell kiss or Leopold Lick, I got a nasty one in 99'. Quite a few stitches to boot. All I said to myself was there better be a dead deer at the end of this field or the guys at work are going to have a heyday! It turned out to be the biggest whitetail I've taken to date, 165 gross. Turned out my buddy did TWICE the same afternoon! I still haven't figured that one out?

Chet, glad to see someone got a good Mulie out of the area. How come you did not tell me about him when I was out Very good white tail for the area as well, good on you. I'm starting to think that I should be following you and your brothers around more often as you guys have had some great game shot this year.

Have a Merry Christmas if I do not see you at the pond over the holidays.

Way to go Chet. To harvest 3 exceptional bucks like you have in one season is a tremendous accomplishment in my book. Looks like you have this deer hunting thing down to a science. Congratulations.

Default Nice Bucks Chet

Chet, What a great season! Only 3 more seasons before you become a hunter like peanuthead! Hide your permissions and hunting spots before the birdbrain tries to weasel in and take over all your spots.

Atta boy! I'm glad (not really ) that I'm not facing your taxi bill!

The 'kiss' scars only add character and have a great story behind them. Congrats!
