Default Fast CWD results

Wife shot a Mule buck Monday 4th and dropped the head off in Stettler Tues and today received notification that it is negative. Can't hope for better than that.

That's a lot faster than I had to wait last year!

Well let's hope they keep up with the flow then there will be less whining why it's taking so long.

Any word on if the flow has slowed down or is it still about a 2 week turn around?

Buddy of mine had a positive mule deer buck in WMU 132 this year, about 10 miles east of Highway 2. It is heading east pretty quickly, can almost guarantee there are positives in the 300 zones now.

Got results back today for one that made it to the freezer around nov 15th. Not too bad compared to last year. Dad had one a week earlier that he hasn’t heard from yet though so still hit or miss.

My experience, the longer it takes the higher the chance of a positive result.

Do you mind being bit more detailed on the location, north/central/south?
Thanks.

Got mine back a couple days ago and it was negative as expected, dropped off Nov 24.

My buck was from WMU 305, but figured it doesn’t hurt to have another data point.

It took 2.5 months for me to get results back on my deer. Besides the speed of the testing/receiving results, I wonder if our government is interested in trying to control the spread of CWD through our province. If so, they may need to look at ways of preventing people from travelling from a known CWD zone (mandatory submission) to a non-CWD zone (no mandatory submission) where they reside. Since CWD is spread through tissues and bodily fluids, AND CANNOT be removed from soil, should we really examine how hunter transportation of potentially positive CWD animals could contribute to the spread of the disease? Additionally, is anyone else concerned about butcher shops unknowingly processing diseased animals and potentially spreading CWD to other customers through contaminated equipment?

So dumb question.

What do you do if its positive, has anyone ate it anyways, and what have you done with your deer while waiting ?

I debone and bag the meat and freeze it until I receive the results. If positive, I will not consume any of the meat.

Same here. 3 times... scrapped it all, first time made sausage and had eaten some of it. Wised up after that, naive and thought it would never test positive.

Correct me if i am wrong though guys. There is no harm in handling the meat while you are deboning it correct?

We took two mule does out of 158 first week of Nov. took 16 days and both negative. Question if you are deboning and waiting for results do you have any problem with a later drop of meat at the butcher shop? (paperwork)

"any problem with a later drop of meat at the butcher shop? (paperwork)"

No worries, I do it most every year in February, or March if I don't make my own sausage. Last Monday I dropped off muley doe meat at K&K, all the usual paperwork is required - License Tag # and Wildlife Certificate #.

What about evidence of sex ? is that a must if you are bringing in an animal that is deboned and frozen?
