We have fished it twice at the end of May. Fishing both times has been quite good.

You have to park on the native reserve. Make sure to pay $5 to whoever comes and asks for it. One guy said no, and as his boat rounded the corner I saw someone fill the fuel tank of his diesel truck with a garden hose...the person simply said "next time he will pay the five bucks"

Yes that is the way they roll up there, seen many bad things happen in that area and for any further comment please consult my attorney.

Ive only ice fished the lake because im too scared to leave my truck and boat trailer unattended in the summer...

The fishing is awesome there. Lots of big pike and walleye, I would love to fish it in the summer time, but it probably aint gonna happen.

My Grandmother's cousin, a retired Fish and Wildlife officer was murdered in the area by a drunken local in October of 92. I spent 34 years in Fort McMurray and while growing up it was an area with a very very bad rep. The incident in 92 pretty much sealed the deal as far as my thoughts of the Conklin and Janvier settlements. Rough folk for sure.... My father used to fly in to ice fish it with his PA 28 Piper Cherokee back in the day however. Produced lots of nice humpback perch.....

I was a special constable at Heart lake for a summer in 1990 during the time of the Oka crisis in Quebec. What an eye opener .lol The fishing was good back then I haven't been back (fishing) since.

I was there with my mom, dad and little brother for 11days last summer and for 8 of the 11 days we were the only people. We had no problems. My dad has been fishing there for more than 30 years and only once has he ever had a problem. He has told me of seeing other people have problems but most of them are brought on by the people themselves. Last summer it was $10 for day usage or $15 to camp and all the firewood you need. Fishing is great, lots of big walleye (too bad you can't keep any) and the jacks are big and hungry. Go and enjoy, use respect and you shouldn't have a problem.
