Default Mercury outboard maintenance suggestions

Suggestions needed for a 2010 mercury 60 hp EFI 4stroke ran in central Alberta. What's a good motor oil and should I use synthetic ? Or just go with standard mercury oil like the manual suggests. Also any suggestions on gear oil, as far as synthetics and brands. I'm going to be replacing spark plugs to so if anyone has experience with this outboard and what works for them give me a heads up, that would be great

It just sucks that the only places around here that sell mercury products are dealerships and they price gouge the crap out of you. I decided to go to my dealership and pick up warranty approved mercury products.

Just another reason I won't buy Merc.

Synthetic is the only way to go. In both the motor and the leg. Funny but the old merc I had the dealer only ran synthetic in both motor and leg.

The merc oil for the oil inject is also a semi synthetci

I have a Suzuki 4 stroke. My manual recommends suzuki marine 10W-40 or any SAE 10W-40.

I hear ya Fluxcore , I had oil change done last year on my boat , now it requires Oil change and tune up to the tune of 400 + I guess that's not bad once a year I just don't want to do it myself and Void the warrinty on it . Not to mention how do you take the cover off without filling the inside of the engine with oil when you take the filter off . Leaves a guy scratching his head . None the less Gibbons motor sports will be taking care of it . At least not having to travel to Calgary for oil change and tune up .

Much better oil out there than factory. For the same price or cheaper any synthetic such as amsoil would be better. Makes no difference for warranty what "brand" oil u use. They just want u to spend more using their own brand which is almost inferior anyways.

You are not going to void your Mercury warranty as long as you use the proper grade of oil and follow the regular mantanance schedule. Save your bills, No problem.

Use what the manual recommends.

The old days of using a heavier oil is not a good idea anymore. Many times the oil viscosity is relative to the size of the galleries in the engine and ensuring proper flow volume.

Granted, this is moreso in transmissions than combustion engines but matching the recommended oil is quite important with the new technologies.

Considering the minimal amount required in an outboard, use synthetic, for both 2 and 4 stroke, IMO, except for break-in.
