Default chain lake ice?

Was thinking of going there on sunday and was wondering if there is any ice left and if it safe to walk on.

14 does not sound like a lot of ice.

If it is going bad fast at PCR I cannot imagine any safe ice at Chain. Let us not forget about the fisherman who fell through last spring and had to be recovered a few days later.

STAY SAFE

Talking Chain Lakes Report March 23 2013.

Can't say how thick the ice was but we drove on yesterday. Roughly the length of our auger bit if thats a safe thickness? Proceed at your own risk and with caution though! Tons of people there and everyone that we talked to was catching (Mainly adults of course). On average people were catching 4 - 5. One party caught 12 in 3 hrs 10:30 AM ish to abt 2:00 PM. We only caught 6 but it took us longer? 10:45 AM to 5:00 PM. Most people caught their limit and left early. Holes were everywhere and each time we moved we found an available one. Never had to drill a hole all day even when we got there.

I don't think I would be driving on there any more this year. 1 ft. of ice in one spot may not mean a consistent thickness everywhere.

Thumbs up Chain lakes March 28

Ice thickness is still ok. Its about 4-5 inches but i wouldnt reccomend driving on! The ice is melting fast with the warm weather. One car did drive on but thankfully nothing happened. From 10am - 3pm had 10 bites caught one but lost another. The trout flopped back into the hole lol? Buddy had about 50 bites but couldnt set the hook on any! Other than that it was fun and such a nice day

Just got back. So one hole I was fishing was 10", another 18" and another about 12. Shore melt is rapid.

Got there at 10,, bite started at 3,, limit for two of us by quarter to five. Lost about a 14" at lift out. Stunning day weather wise.

I used mealworms (the beiger the better,,, colour beige that is),, old fart used corn.

Yeah...It was a pretty good fishing day. Landed 8 today...missed a bunch as well. I would say I was in 18Fow but hook was around 14 feet...Using green tear drop jig with worms today...

Drilled 2 test holes before driving on...14feet of ice...Didn't venture too far out on the ice...

Excellent weather out there...

Gust...seen your group out there...Looks like alot of fun your group had

Small world....EH
