Default Oil out of steel drum

How do you guys get your steel drums free of oil smell? I found a old oil drum I want to use to boil my skulls and do some euro mounts but I’m wondering what you guys use to clean them out properly first?

Boil it out. Or burn it out

Put some water and soap in the barrel and boil away, the oil won't hurt the skulls any and a couple of boils the oil will be gone. Do NOT wash the oil down a drain at the car wash. The water and oil mix makes a great gravel drive week killer.

Other choice is to put 5 gallons of gas in the barrel, roll it all around pour it out and burn the residual in an old truck, lawn mowers etc. A little oil mixed into 20 gallons of gas makes a good top end lube for older vehicles.

I would look carefully what was in the drum and the original interior coating. Some products are shipped in "plastically lined" drums, and the composition of the "plastic or drum liner product" is determined by the product shipped. i.e. amine can be shipped in drums, but needs a "special" liner.
