Default The Favorite Service Call I Never Got

I've found some weird things at work but never a dead body in a mechanical access! Curious it is was someone trying to steal or simply a homeless person who figured it was a decent spot to make a camp in? I doubt foul play (aside from the deceased themselves) as I've been through enough access doors that I doubt that a victim, be they unwilling or dead could be brought through without at least two people doing it.

From the Calgary Herald:

Calgary police are investigating after a body was found in a wall in a downtown mall bathroom.

Spokeswoman Emma Poole said a maintenance worker was called Monday morning to fix a toilet that wouldn’t flush in a women’s washroom in the Core Shopping Centre.

“If you were to look at the toilet, there’s a panel behind it so that when people move it would automatically flush,” she said. “When they removed that panel, they found a deceased person behind that wall.”

Yellow caution tape was draped across the women’s bathroom entrance as several security guards turned people away Monday. People in the nearby food court were eating and others were using the men’s bathroom as police ducked in and out of the women’s bathroom.

Four firefighters arrived at the scene to help remove the remains and the medical examiner was also on the scene.

Poole said investigators have not yet determined if the death is suspicious.

She said it’s possible someone crawling through a vent or duct fell from above and got stuck in the wall.

“That would be the most logical at this point is that it was from above,” said Poole. “So that is obviously something they would be looking at is someone crawling through the ventilation system.”

It’s a naming convention based off the +15 system. “+15 level” would be second floor, there is a “+30 level” in Bow Valley Square and that is the third floor, so the “+45 level” in the The CORE would be the fourth

I imagine it would be quite traumatic, depending on the person. I would still be gagging.

I have walked out of countless, putrid men's rooms thinking someone had died in them. Maybe this is one of them?

I've been thinking all along that it was a burglar or homeless person. What if it was some guys apprentice and he thought the kid just up and quit, 'abandoning' the worksite?? "Damned snowflake Millenial left me to pack up by myself"

So this is how automatic flushing systems really work. I always thought it was just a motion sensor.

Who knows if the fall did them in suddenly? Had they been alive following the fall most burglars would likely have taken the option to call for help and face the consequences rather than to die. I’ve read multiple instances of criminals getting stuck attempting burglaries and having to be rescued. Another possibility is that they did survive the fall and tried to call for help but they were doing the B&E attempt after mall hours and didn’t survive overnight. They could have had all kinds of cuts from the steel studs, screws, ductwork, etc and maybe bled out? Maybe it was instantaneous with a broken neck from the fall?
