Default Computer help....PNG files

When I get pics in an email and save them, they save as PNG files. And I can't do anything with them....edit,resize, etc. And they will only open in a thumbnail-like size ?? What am I missing?? My normal methods don't work. Email is a Hotmail account.

Thanks for any suggestions.

There are programs that do work with .png files.
But you should be able to choose what format you wish to save the file as.

If not I would look for a graphics file converter on CNET.com

You could try....
Save the picture to your pictures folder as a Png. file. Then in your pictures file right click on the picture and 'open with' paint. Then in paint click on the image icon and you can re-size the pic. Then while in paint click 'save as' and change the format to Jpeg or other format on the list. Then you should be able to open and change the picture in the regular photo viewer and editor you use.

Like Keg mentioned too. You can go online and find a free converter too.

Default PNG is standard file

PNG is a standard graphics file and will be able to be read by any half decent graphics program, windows, internet browser etc. If you are using one thay doesn't just do as mentioned and do a save as and save it as the jpeg or whatever file type you wish it to be. Generally not an issue. Make sure you don't have a default program set to open it that is not the one you want to use if you are clicking on it to open.

install IrfanView, it converts many different types of files and is my goto app for resizing. I use Gimp for any heavy editing.
