Default lakes to ice fish along the AB/SASK border???

Hi there,

I am new to the forum.

Any idea or recommendations for ice fishing along the AB/SASK border? My fishing buddy just moved to Saskatoon for work and we're looking to meet up somewhere halfway to ice fish this weekend? I was looking at some maps and it doesnt look like theres anything on the southern side of the border since i'm in Calgary. I was thinking along the Red Deer River but I dont know if thats completely frozen over or if its any good for fishing or even allowed.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks

Elkwater in Cypress Hills?
Any of the smaller lakes just outside of Elkwater?

Take a cheap flight to saskatoon, meet your buddy and go to lake Diefenbaker. This lake is full of all sorts of fish and is huge. Pike, perch, walleye rainbows ( new world record there),whitefish, burbot, goldeye, sturgeon, etc. utube fishinggeeks that is where they fish. Personally never been there but if I had a buddy in Sask.......Trophy lake on a paupers budget.

When I am in Sask. and I want to meet up with my Calgary friends we always start at Big Stone 35kms south of Youngstown and fish Blood Indian Creek reservoir for nice size rainbows or go all out and meet in Cold Lake.
