Default Highwood River - West Longview

Hello, so I am wanting to venture out of the city this upcoming summer with my daughter who has taken a huge interest in fly fishing. We fish the bow but we would like to check out some other river since we live so close. I just have a couple questions for anyone who fishes this river:

1. I assume most of the Highwood River from Longview is private land, so do you have to get permission to access the river?

2. When you park and leave your vehicle, have you ever had any bad encounters with theft or vandalism? Reason asking I have heard of guys having issues in some parts of the province with this very issue.

Any advice or feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

There are a few "public access" spots along the river (little yellow signs along the road - some are more visible than others), but don't expect solitude, it's a VERY popular and busy river!

Cars get broken into everywhere, don't leave anything of value in your vehicle ever!

I agree that "out of sight" mentality is the way to go for sure.
It seems like alot of rivers from Red Deer south to US border are always busy. Been in remote rivers down by Coleman and there were still fisherman to be bumped into. I dont think there are many rivers, if any that you wouldn't bump into a few fisherman on during the weekend or even a week day.

You'll usually see cars parked by the yellow signs, that indicates an access point. It can be a difficult drop/climb into the canyon so wear decent shoes. It is a beautiful spot, I fished it 4 times last summer and didn't even get a bite! Some very deep pools there in between the fast stuff.
Had far more luck on the Bow but nowhere near as pretty!
