Default Anyone fish the Blackstone yet??

Hello all...Just wondering if anyone has fished the Blackstone yet this year..wondering if the run-off is done yet in that area?..water clarity?? I was there last year in July and had decent success, went back in late Aug, and barely saw a fish??..Not sure what the fishery is like, didn`t catch any bulls...but there are quite a few honest 18inch cutts in there. Does anyone know if they have been pushed further down stream in recent years?? I have only fished the beaver flats up to the gap stretch, and the half dozen times I have been ther in the last couple years have been hit and miss. It seems like to me that when the water level drops so does the fishing, and even in the bigger pools and larger holding areas its scarce. Anyone have any ideas??? Don`t need any secret spot info just curious as to whats happening in the upper reaches..thanks in advance.

Default blackstone report

bbbhunter, me and my neighbor were up there yestersay. river is in good shape, flowing clear amongst the thundershowers. we fished what i would say is the middle portion. managed 8 cutties and 3 small bullies. best of luck, will try to put up a few pics after supper. take care, rob.

Hey Rob, thanks for the info..and the pic`s, pretty decent fish, were they rising to dries?..I got some custom 6 inch streamers tied a couple months ago, and have been dieing to try them on the bulls, I am heading there next Sunday for five days so hopefully I`ll miss some of the rain! I`ll be camped at beaver flats..27ft holiday trailer with blue dodge 3500 stop by for a beer if you are in the area! Randy

randy, no problem, hope you have some luck. we lost 3 really nice cutts that were pushing the 18 inch envelope. yes they were rising to the dries, stimulators and royal coachmen seemed to be best. should have tried an elk hair caddis but never did.
thanks for the invite for the beer, if i am down that way will definetly stop by. supposed to fish the nordegg next weekend but never know what may happen.
let me know how it treats you. take care, rob.

I too will be in the blackstone neighborhood this weekend. Also going to give the Cardinal a shot. Maybe put the float tube to use on a nearby lake. Black two door explorer feel free to say hello, the blackstone is my main destination and I'll be in the neighbor hood for two or three days.

Well got a day and a half in before the rain hit..fished up stream of beaver flats up from where cut-off joins. Only managed about twenty fish in all, The cutts were rising on occasion, and hit stimulators and adams pattern, caught a few on copper johns and a few whites as well, only caught two bulls, cant seem to find the bulls up there anymore. It seems the fishing gets worse the last couple years..maybe I`m getting worse
