Default Another Arrow Question

I currently shoot Maxima Reds but have tried Mayhems and Axis.

I like all of the above, but for 3D targets they all seem brutal to pull out.

I know the soap trick or the Woody's lube but for example the last time I shot, I lubed my arrow right before I shot a Mackenzie antelope and it stuck HARD.

Typically with lube I will get 4 or 5 targets before the foam starts sticking again but there has to be a better answer no?

It gets old lubing and scraping foam off the shafts with my thumbnail. I don't seem to see others having the same issue much?

I'm also not shooting a speed bow or anything odd that might add to the problem.

Thanks!

I was wondering about that too. My points are just smaller than shaft diameter so maybe this is the ticket for foam!

Not so much for a bag target though I suppose.

Default arrows

Those Maxima Reds are brutal to pull out of foam targets. I don't use them but a couple of buddies do, and they are a pain in the azz in my opinion. I've always though/been told that the diameter of your shafts and you field points should be the same, is this not true? Less resistance in flight as well I would think. I should the Maxima Hunters and I find them to be pretty easy to pull out of most targets, lube every few targets makes big difference obviously. Good luck, cheers.

Correct in the aspect of where arrow/insert meet field/target point ...
Too big point and its like a hook or anchor in target...! Worst!
Too small point and its blunt around point destroying target!

Th points above are exact where arrow/insert meets point but the mid half of point is bulged...still "aerodynamic" but as buldge is bigger than shaft if pulled in normal time it theoretically will pull easier as the hole is bigger than shaft...

however on new fast self healing foam...it may be just as hard to pull...if fact Buldge points were designed for 3D target...on target such as our big Block range targets it is in fact harder to pull and harder on targets...

True story, but these are extra hard.

Shot a few Axis at same target to see. HUGE difference. Beats me??

Some arrow finishes also effect pulling...some of the ruffer camo finishes seize in hard whereas a smooth finish will pull easier...some brands better than others...regardless clean arrow often to prevent buildup on arrow..buildup will make it harder each time and may effect some rests..

A ball of very fine steel wool cleans them well...

You bet.
My Reds are not camo finish but the foam residue that is stuck on them sometimes is unreal.
If I lube them every 2 or 3 shots it's not too bad though.

Thats probably due from the half gallon of red paint on them... lol

Outstanding arrows otherwise...lots of shooters here using the Reds and no issues on the Block targets..and its about the same on par with any other arrow on 3D targets on outdoor range...

I think thats due to increased speed and KE of new bows and improved self healing foam of modern 3D targets...
