Trapping along snowmobile tracks?
Hi guys,
First off, thanks' for all the good input to my many questions lately. I was critically ill (cause is a total mystery) one year ago. I was bed ridden for months, and am now getting around with a walker. It mostly affected my walking ability.
I have been away from trapping for awhile, but nearly passing on made me re- evaluate what's important.
Man, do I want to trap again!!
Sorry for the lead in.
My question. I may not be walking fully by next winter, but still hope to have a small line. Do you think setting various foothold sets right along a snowmobile track(or a few feet away,I am building a winter walker) would be effective for canines, or will they associate man too much with them and steer clear.
Thanks' in advance for your time,
Ken

wow cant imagine what you went through, having said that lots of guys set right off the back of their sled, around here a sled track through the bush is a highway for canines and other critters some weave through willows or carve left or right then set in the inside corner type thing also or partially block it off and set snares for lynx etc lots of sets will work

Your mystery illness sounds very similar to my sister's debilitating session with unknown degradation of health and body/muscle, stomach illness and nervous system issues etc, until she was in a wheel chair most days, her family doctor and others were useless, she finally was diagnosed with Lyme Disease,
Canadian doctors are pitifully inept at dealing with Lyme Disease, properly misdiagnosed it CAN KILL YOU, or permanently disable you !
Frustrated and worsening with POOR medical treatment she sought care with Specialists in the USA and now is well on the way to being reasonably healthy after 4 years of agony and frustration,
Do NOT be satisfied with the FIRST Doctor to misdiagnose you IF you DO have Lyme Disease ,
As for trapping along trails ?, , , YES a very method to get your limit with a bit less trail breaking,
Good luck

some of the longest, most gruelling hikes i've been on where when my snow machine broke down, stuck in slush, ran out of fuel, ect. if walking is an issue. might not be a good idea to go very far. be careful. hope you get feeling better.

They make em to break em. Have you ever been to a rally where their isn't at least one machine broke down. For something and average guy puts on 100hours a year they sure aren't reliable.

Lots of good trapping done right out of a truck. If I had health issues i think I could still put up some real good numbers with a few miles on the truck

my friends wife had to go to California to be diagnosed with lyme and then given antibiotics for a year. But what I did not know was my buddy caught it from his wife and had to do the California route also.

some other illness
Morning,
pretty sure mine wasn't Lyme disease. I got pneumonia, and it got so bad my blood turned septic. They figure the mix of my regular meds(i have bipolar disorder), the blood poisoning, and the meds they were giving me created a "perfect storm" so to speak and poisoned my brain. It was pretty bad,I was on life support twice.
So here is my advice to everyone.Live your lives to the fullest each day.Until I collapsed,I thought I had the flu.But I'm getting better, and I WILL be out trapping and enjoying the outdoors.
Thanks' again for all the advice and encouraging words.
