Default Pretty neat 'Ice Shack stove'

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-fishing-camp...ove/1322850485

Looks pretty cool, I'd like to make one up myself as a project. I'm not sure if he just welded the handle part to the bottom, or if its 2 top halfs of 2 tanks, welded together. The handle weld seems a lot easier and its to keep the stove off the ground a bit more.

Looks pretty darn good. Only thing I might change is making the base a little more "stable" via adding legs or something so you don't tip it over and start a circus relay evacuation out of the tent .... lol.

Very good point, a good breeze would knock that over. Maybe a ring the width / circumference of the tank? If you had a few tanks to work with, just a section of the belly, welded on bottom. Depending on where it was to sit, legs after that could be an idea. Yet I suppose your chimney is going to help stabilize things also possibly. That looks like exhaust pipe so plenty strong.
One issue I thought of is draft, since that door doesn’t seal I can’t imagine. If the fire died down and or the flue wasn’t drawing enough, smoke could leak out.
Years ago I made something similar, which worked great with a nice fire, but even the slightest bit of smoke can be awful.

If you got the chimney through the side or roof it should be more than stable enough.

On a side note make sure you know what you're doing before you cut into a empty propane tank. Just because the valve is out doesn't mean it's safe to cut. I won't go into details on how to do it because I don't want someone mis understanding than blaming me when they blow themselves up but just be careful and make sure you know what you're doing. You could build the same stove out of a steel 5 gallon pail with no explosion risk.

Remove the valve and fill it with water.

Remove valve and pour in 1/2 cup or so of baking soda. Then add vinegar. This causes carbon dioxide which will displace the oxygen. Then cut away, because you've removed one side of the combustion triangle it can not ignite.

Oh I know how. I'm a journeyman welder. You'd might be surprised how even the simplest of instructions can get screwed up lol.

Default G Stove

I've seen on Youtube recently one outdoors guy was using this stove, which seems to be pretty awesome. You could even use it in tent. It comes with chimney and sparks braker( or something like that). Nice portable unit, quite expensive 345USD plus 25USD shipping. Made in Norway.
But for those who can weld something to think about.

I thought the same thing. Probably fine for a good burning fire, but maybe not enough draft to feed the fire when burning low.
Yet I’d give it a try as is. Next add a tube to direct the draft air down to or under the fire.

Anyone can drop $500 on a nice portable stove, but where’s the pride in that? lol

Don’t forget there’s also 30-40 pound tanks, yet the chimney might have to be upsized. Diesel exhaust size.

Hmmm where are those old tanks I have now?...... lol.

That looks pretty slick. I love the nice dry heat from a wood stove. Now if I could figure out a way to cut hole in my tent for the chimney and protect it from burning down.

Default Pretty neat 'Ice Shack stove'

I have this one in my shack. It goes on sale for $80 a couple times per year. https://www.princessauto.com/en/deta...ve/A-p8192403e

Overall it serves it purpose and keeps my shack warm but my main complaint is the small chimney pipe. Would be better if it was a full 3" diameter (it can be modded to 3" but I haven't done it yet) I drilled the air holes in the front and back bigger for extra airflow and replaced the spark arrestor with a curved piece of exhaust pipe that I can turn away from the breeze for better draft.

But for $80 you almost can't build one for that price.

Just resurrecting this old thread for an update. Another member on here (moo snuckle) recommended a mod to me for the princess auto stove.

I went to Gregg Distributors and grabbed 6' of 3" OD exhaust pipe and a 3" ID coupler. I cut out the old 2 1/4" coupler and welded the 3" one on and now am using a full 3" stove pipe. I also welded in a piece of metal below the pipe opening to act as a baffle.

The stove now runs 100x better. Hotter and no backdraft etc.

I'm not into this stove for $160 including the mod.

I have the exact same stove I considered going to 3 inch pipe but was worried that could not get the heat up the pipe to cause a draw and smoke come in from the door have you had any problem with that

Mack... since going to the bigger pipe I have pretty much zero issues with smoke coming out the door.

I also increased the sizes of the holes on the front door so it can suck more air.

Pulled up this old thread. Does the princess auto stove or a 30 pound tank stove hold enough wood and make enough heat for an 8X12 ice shack? Thinking for over night stays may not be sized big enough and up constantly feeding it. ?

Just don’t get to excited and forget to do a high temp burn in the thing outside on a nice day to get the paint buned off. If you don’t you can get very sick breathing that stuff inside your shack.

Default Gravity fed pellet feeder

Bought this pellet feeder kit for my stove and it works awesome, I might make a few tweaks to it but as is you can get extreme heat from it and damp it down for a well controlled burn for sleeping at night. Stove can still use wood to.

Hey Fish Hunter

Very interested to hear your thoughts on the pellet feeder. That's the cylinder stove kit correct ? I've been looking at those for a while and wondering if you think it would heat a 12x16 wall tent at night? I almost think a guy could build one fairly simply.

Can you fill the pellet hopper without worry of tipping the stove backwards?

Also do you have any concern about the burn going back up into your pellets?
