Default Livingstone River

Heading out to the Livingstone this weekend. I have never been, just wondering if anyone has any tips for fishing it or could provide an update on the hatches lately. Don't need locations, I like to explore.

Feel free to PM me, much appreciated!

watch the temperatures, if the water is much warmer than 20 degrees there isn't much oxygen in it and fighting trout is a one way ticket to the grave for them.

bring hoppers and terrestrials, and some different sized stoneflies for sure

Get out of bed early and claim a pool. Its busy enough during the week, can't imagine the long weekend.

Like flieguy said, terrestrial patterns or anything big and bushy in your dry fly box will work fine. Hatches are overrated when fishing for cutties

Default Good day

Was out on the river on Monday and had a blast. We ended up going with the smallest Flys we had as the big guys did not work which is not the norm. But we could see them feeding and even when we got close it was still hard to see what they were taking. Once we went small and dark patterns we could not keep them off and it was great. It slowed down around 2pm but we were on the water from 8 so was ok with that. Enjoy the fishing.

I was out there this weekend, an man does that river produce. Water Temps were down and the fish loved it. I screened the water and found GIANT caddis pupa. So I threw on a nymph that was similar size and color, and BAM! cutties and bull trout all day long. The only 2 flys in my box that met the criteria now need to be re-tied. The bullys destroyed them.

I think the date format is set to the retarded MONTH-DAY-YEAR. I think the thread was from August. Still need to read the regs though.

All of last years posts are from August that I can see?
Regardless.....it's a fun lil river with lotsa easy pickins/gullible cutties, great place to introduce newbs to the sport,my pre-teen son (at the time) learned to flyfish on the Liv.

I would avoid weekends if at all possible and absolutely avoid the entire area on July Long Weekend, total gong show of sunbathers and kids splashing, there's a caravan of 5th wheels at every access and tents every 100m along the Liv,about 18,000 quads and dirt bikes and the FTR is a continuous dust cloud with traffic akin to McLeod Trail on a Friday afternoon 4pm.....been there did that ONCE....I don't even think I wet a line that day, literally could not find an unoccupied piece of river to fish....NEVER AGAIN!!

I suggest you learn them yourself and read the dates. You have nothing better to do than dig up nothing on older threads?

Opener is coming soon and then it is full game on!
