Default Ice fishing near Rocky

I'm new to rocky trying find some good ice fishing. I've tried a few lakes with not much success (Mitchell and strubel a few bites, twin, crimson few really small perch). I've tried shrimp and power bait marshmallows usually in 20 FOW about 6" to 18" of the bottom. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions that might help. Hoping to tie into a few trout one of these days.

Never fished trout out there in the winter but if your having a hard time I would try going shallower. 10-20fow also when things get slow I like to try some light jigging with 5-10 second breaks to give them a chance to hit it.

Hey there Justin1,

I'd give Peppers Lake a try for some Brookie action.

Typically I'll fish in about 8 - 12 FOW, using a Lindy Micro Slick jig with a piece of mealworm or cocktail shrimp or a Slender Spoon to target the aggressive feeders!

Beautiful scenery as a bonus and usually productive fishing as well...

The lakes your at all have good fishing, and the trout there like shrimp most days too. My main suggestion would be to really work to find a good spot where the fish are cruising through. Tackle is mostly based on the day, slow days I like to use small stuff and if the fish are seeming a bit more aggressive a larger spoon will sometimes work. A small jig or fly with a small piece of bait deadsticked will sometimes be the ticket, I've had many days on Mitchell where the jawjacker with a leech and shrimp will outfish anyone jigging

Strubel has been uncharacteristicaly slow for me this year, in the past I haven't been able to run two holes out there because one hole kept me busy enough. I have caught more perch out there this year than trout. As stated above give peppers a try down the trunk road or head to sylvan or gull and try your luck there. Good luck!
