Default "Speedy Sharp" opinions

So last fall I finaly got around to buying one of those carbide tip knife sharpeners you see at canadian tire. All I can say is wow, this thing works so fast that I cant help but feel that there has to be a down side. Due to my superstition that there has to be some downside to getting a knife shaving sharp in half a minuit I keep using my sharpening stones most of the time. Any one else tryed these? Is there any side efect of using these "cheaters"?

Was wondering about those myself...saw them on sale at Cambodian Tire and almost bought one, but decided I don't *need* one right now

You just need to watch out how much metal you shave off of whatever you are trying to sharpen.Made that mistake.

i've got a couple of them, keep one in mine and the wife's survival kits..

They work, but I haven't been able to get a great edge with them. Personally I think they're ok for a survival situation, but I have other stuff that works a lot better for me at home.

Other than this ^^^ has anyone found a downside? You deffinatly cant be too aggressive with them. They will actualy whittle away metal, works awesome for large fishhooks too.
