Default Ice fishing hacks

So it is windy a lot in the SE corner. I don't like sitting in a shelter unless I can sight fish so..... I built a little wind break. I scored a 1 1/4 ship auger drill bit cheap and put it to use. I was also to cheap to buy a ice transducer for my new Garmin so came up with a hack for that as well.

They used to build wind shelters like that many years ago. I don't know why they don't any more. They worked well.

How does your transducer work in 20+" of ice? Or is that not a thing down there? I would think you would get odd interference with it that shallow in the hole.

Nice, beats sitting beside a truck on a windy day and having the wind still whistle by your hole.

Cool. Been thinking about trying to build a windbreak that doesn't take up all the room in my sled. That seems like pretty simple setup. thanks for sharing.

They do make wind shelters and always have. Many are in the same form as a flip over. Nobody brings them in up here. Due to our cold weather is my guess. Weather like lately it is all you need if setup properly. Google Schappell FXF 50 and check one style out.

I use the HT Enterprises polar windbreak shelter, not as big but sets up n folds down quickly and is easily transported when hole hoppin or in a sled. Usually though I'm fishin from my older Quickflip so set it up half open as a windbreak, added bonus if the sun in in your face.

Very cool!

Anyone else think it's fitting that Piker uses "red/green" zip ties?

I've got my transducer on a 4 ft pole with 6inch increments to get it to the bottom of the ice. Otherwise I get a blacked out top of the screen and the cone seems to narrow up. Just my old Lawrence x5 but it's portable and has its own separate power pack and I can pick up a 1/32 jig in 25 ft of water 6 inches off the bottom if i set it up right.
