Provost is always high but it was 1.09 the other day. Yesterday it was 1.19. Drove through this morning, 1.24.

I fill up my F150 every other day. This price hike will hurt if it stays. I don’t mind paying 2014 gas prices, if I was getting paid 2014 wages. Lost all our mileage, so I put on about 500km a day or so and get paid nothing. High gas prices hurts the bottom line.

Usually price of fuel and oil follow the same bumpy road. Ever since the crash of oil prices in years past they refused to let fuel prices correlate with prices of oil as they seen an opportunity to take advantage of the situation, they are now able to achieve even higher profits as the correlation dissipates.

Companies making a healthy profit. As long as wages don’t go up and eat into that profit, all will be OK.

And some on here don't seem to mind the increase at all, that would be those that are happy to bend over and take it.

Guys whine about gas at $1.20litre, but will go inside the store and buy a 500ml of water for $2! Water is free from a tap

high fuel prices will be the catalyst to influence even more people buy electric vehicles for their next purchase, more so in the cities than in rural areas. eventually this will lead to a major collapse of fuel prices, so in effect, the major fuel companies are cutting their own throats. another alternative to this opinion is that oil execs see the trend toward EV's and are trying to maximize profits while the majority of vehicles still have internal combustion engines.

You can thank the NDP carbon tax for at least $0.20 per liter

Ha ha.

Not sure why the spike yet however do tell. Please let us know which oil companies profit is unreasonable rate of return for a business.

Which companies are making an unreasonable profit. Some people make statements however never back it up with substance.

You have 3 alberta refineries basically controlling the gas price, gone are the days of gas wars. With only the 3 its very easy to say ok I think we can boost profits this quarter, were all in, pick a number for gas this week. Nobody bitches about it so done deal.
Just try to raise gas prices in Montana or any usa state 1.00 a gallon overnite and see the backlash that happens.
Like said earlier they raise prices on a whim and will keep doing so cause everybody just pays and nobody bitches.
Price of oil has little to do with the gas price as does usa refineries (cant believe people believe that usa refinery sh**t).

I can see the gas prices hitting $1.50, oil climbing to $90/barrel and the NDP taking credit for all of it then getting voted back in for a second term.

For most people in this day buying gas is not option, it is needed to get to work, and to do work, especially in the rural areas where there is no public transit system.

There is also no competition, all the big oil companies get together and set the price to what ever they want, when ever they want. Those who don't believe this are delusional, or know that it happens but work for an oil company and defend it.

There is competition for the bottle of water and everything else in the province so it has to stay at a reasonable price and increases can only be slight or people buy somewhere else.

Oil in Alberta anyway is about the only product out of everything sold here that has no competition......none, all companies work together. It is also one of the few companies that increase the price of their products gouging the customers at peak times. For the average person common sense clearly confirms this if you don't see this you would fall into the IQ category of a turnip.

Look at jewellery stores, electronics, grocery stores etc. at peak times these businesses because of competition all put a lot of their product on sale. They accept less margin but make up the profits with a huge increase in volume.
