What fish is this? Caught on NSR
Looks like a trout just not too familiar with trout identification.

That's what I assumed. Have only herd rumors about them in the NSR. Thanks applejax!

No problem, a coworker caught one in Devon last year. Now you can scratch another NSR species off the list!

There is two rainbows and 5 rocky mountain whitefish caught below Fort Saskatchewan this year that I know of. Nice to see a broonie made it down this far as well. Maybe a sign of the river getting cleaner? lol

Looks sun faded like it was laying in the sun for awhile... Not saying it was, just a sickly pale color. Rare catch indeed.

More like sun deprived. The water has been high and murky for the last couple weeks so its tone is light to match the conditions. Very apparent in the walleye right now as well.

Awesome post thanks for sharing, I do believe that this is the farthest downstream that Browns have been reported! The furthest I had seen to date was Goldbar park.

Because usually if you want trout in the NSR you fish upstream in the NSR. preferably Drayton and further lol

May I ask was it caught on worms, lure, fly?
Wanted to mention i hooked into a whitefish in Glodbar. Didnt know it was rare here. Hooked a few at genesee also. Im a horible fisherman, but I seem to catch only the stuff others dont lol. Apparently a night of only burbot is rare too... Seems i do it often. Come on sturgeon and browns!!

There used to be some big Dolly Varden/ Bull trout in the NSR edmonton area a few decades ago . In 1967 a 25 lb. bull trout was caught in the mouth of whitemud creek. There might be the odd one still in the river. Definitely browns upstream so they may disperse downstream a bit too. Browns were stocked in the river in the 1990's for a year or two. I know of a 4 lb. brown caught last year in Edmonton.
