Most guys are fishing 75-10 feet of water with smelts for the lakers. Find the edge of the old river channel and you'll catch fish. For the most part it is a very stunted population so don't expect anything over a pound but the scenery is awesome.

Thanks sheep

What test. of line are guys using. I also dont have any sonar or a fasher. Whats the best way to find the old channel? Just drill a bunch of holes and start dropping?

the channel is about 150-200m straight from the boat launch....last year it was a blast )))

if you don`t have a depth-finder, you can find a depth map of the lake...it`s pretty accurate....

I use a 10 pound braided line but you could use mono as well. These fish are light biters and require a quick hook set and the braid is ideal for that. I'd go where the other anglers are if you don't have a sonar unit. There will be loads out there plus there are several shacks that are on prime structure. It should be easy to figure out. No need to crowd anyone but the line of shacks is a good indication roughly where you should fish.

Thats kind of what I was thinking, follw the crowd. When using smelt do you just put them on a regualar hook or a treble and just jig them off the bottom?

All my secrets are being given away today. But I just use a smell smelt and cut it in half. Then I just put it on a regular hook and leave it 6-20 feet off bottom. I also find with spray the time of day is important. I find early in the morning the fish are biting, and then early afternoon. But also when one spot has been dead awhile walk 100 meters and try again. They seem to bite everywhere.

On east side of lake near the north end. You can't miss it. There's no docks, just a boat launch and day use area.

Another key to fishing Spray ,aside from dressing like your on a hike to the north pole , is to fish the entire water column. The fish are usually hanging out in spots 65-100ft deep but I've caught them suspending in those spots around 40ft. A flasher really helps but you can get by with out it.

Buzz bombs tipped with gulp minnow smelts were my ticket last year.
