Default Choke tube unscrews, but won't come out

So... Bought a Stevens 512 gold wing from a member here. Very happy with the gun.. But.. Im trying to change out one of the chokes and it has a hard time unscrewing, I can unscrew it, but then she won't come out. Can't really figure a way to get leverage to pull it out. Don't want to take pliers to it cause the threads will wreck.
It screws back in ok. I can get about a quarter inch of the tube to show, but that's it.. She no go.

Anyone got any advice. I don't really want to be shooting pheasants with improved modified.

Thanks in advance.

Yes I'm a choke tube rookie.

Sounds like its not screwed all the way out. Lube the threads and screw it back in and out a few times to loosen it if its screwed out all the way. Stick a finger in the tube to twist and pull if you don't have a wrench.

Penetrating oil works very well, it sounds like there may be a bit of an issue with the threads.
Hit it with the penetrationg oil and unscrew it, if it starts to jam up back it off one thread and hit it with the oil again, and really put the force to it to get it out.
Hopefully it will come.

Ok... Well it's for sure not a thread thing, I can get it about 1/3 out, then whoa... She barely even twists.

Put the oil to it and I read that perhaps heat the barrel.
I'll try that.

But boy! She ain't comin!

When in doubt, use a bigger wrench.

Smile Had the same problem

The advice is good, use penetrating oil, try harder, I used a cloth over the tube and slip joint pliers. It needed pulling more than turning.

The tube IMO needed a very good cleaning.

Tell us what happens.

The size of choke will be fine for pheasants.

I tried getting it out last night... No joy.

Gave it a good dose of WD40... Screwed it back in, unscrewed it...
It just won't slide out! Put piece of leather and needle nose pliers.. Still can't pull it out.

Starting to think I might just put the pliers directly to it and wreck the choke...

IM is fine for birds... I was hoping to go with M and IC for those frighin Huns!

I've always hunted with a full choke.. And Huns usually make me look bad.

I gave her another WD 40 shot and let her sit.

Go to an auto parts store..CT, NAPA etc and pick up a can of "freesie"..or "Freeze spray"...Unscrew choke fully. Turn barrel so that the choke is facing down, spray the inside of the choke (Choke only, not barrel) with the freeze spray until it looks frozen. Then use two pliers 180 degrees opposed to each other, pull out choke.

The threads are stripped. He can already spin it, so WD40 or more lubricant won't do it, it's already released. Hopefully, the threads are stripped in the choke and not the barrel threads. Choke thread damage is most likely. In which case, it's an easy fix, but the choke will have to be sacrificed.

Default Nope

Threads are fine. Tube threads in fine, unscrews fine, then I can wiggle it out another 1/4 inch , then stuck.

I'll be in Lethie for a few days, I'll pick up that freezy stuff and get some better penetrating oil.

If the threads were fine, then you wouldn't have problems pulling it out. Oil isn't miraculous, it's just a lubricant. You can already turn it and release it. Don't put false hope on a lubricant doing your dirty work for you......such as cutting the choke?

No, you don't need to damage barrel threads to cut out the choke. The choke is pooched, but some skill and a bit of patience will get it out.

Worked it out!
Leather glove, got some grip. Cussed her out.

Bit gunked up, but not super. I dunno.

Cleaned up, threads inside look fine.. Other chokes replaced .
M and IC.
Ready for Tomorrow. Thanks for the insights.

Like I said this had nothing to do with threads and that the choke tubes and shotgun arent of the highest quality ....(like the P-350 I had) and the choke bulged out causeing the tightness you will have just as much of a problem to get it in by a higher quality tube and you should be good.
