Default New Burbot Record?

Hi, all

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend. He doesn't have an account here and is too lazy to sign up one. lol.

He just caught a burbot last night Nov 26, 2021.
We brought this fish to Fishing Hole Calgary this morning hoping they could help with offical length and weight record. Unfortunately the staffs there couldn't do anything except for watching and taking photos.

Anyway here is some info about this fish

Weight: 9.465 KG, covert to 20.867 Lbs. Fishing Hole Current Record shows as 18lbs 11.8 oz and recordfishcanada.com shows 17lbs
The weight is taken at a post office so it should be "Offical" enough, right? Thanks for the earlier post about walleye record so we learned what to do about the weight.

Legnth: 42-1/8". You can tell the current measrement is pretty rough. I thought I have seen some types of measurement board are "approved offical ones" but now I cannot find such info. We will bring it to Cochrane wildlife office on Monday for measurement but Fishing Hole staffs told us the fish may shrink over this weekend. So if anyone can post me where can I find an offical approved measurement board, I'd rather get it properly measured this weekend.
The recordfishcanada.com record shows current record is 42". So maybe this one beats the record, maybe not. That's why we want to get an accurate length desperately.

Time Caught: Nov 26, 2021

Place of Caught: The Lake through Ice Fishing.
**Ice is still unsafe at most places, BE CAREFUL**

Anyway, congratulations to my friend for this one!
Hopefully one day I can break a record by myself.

What a fish!! Wonder if she was a fighter or if she was like pulling in some driftwood?

Go to the main page on this site and click the link that says record book. It gives you all current provincial records.

The current provincial record burbot is 25lbs 2 oz. That's a great burbot though!!

Where did you find that?
Are you talking angling or commercial?
I know when we processed commercial fish we had 2 walleye and 1 pike that beat the current angling records and they were from the same lake 🤷*♂️

Default Burbot

My son and I were at the Fish & Game awards banquet in Edmonton when that 25lb Burbot was entered into the provincial record book, massive fish, 2016 I think.

Well I guess that ends the 8 inch hole Vs. 10 inch hole debate!

Very very nice pile of fish and chips you got there!

Great Fish - but about 4lbs short of provincial record - which is still a monster - so congrats to your friend.

Very nice prairie mermaid. I wonder if it counts that there is probably a 1 or 2 lb. fish in the burbots belly.

If you are close to a local F&W office they could probably verify length and weight. Even if it isn't a record it will be a great feast.

Found the 25lbs record. It was 2015...
We were too excited
Well, even not a provincial record fish, this is still exciting enough.

To marky_mark, it was Ice Fishing. So not commerical.

I just said where I found that. It says "Alberta Hunting and Angling Records" on the page so I assume not commercial. Should be accurate except for maybe the walleye.

now thats worth staying up late for! something that size would be amazing on a light rod and light line, if you actually got it onto the ice! no reason it couldnt grab a walleye jig and minnow and leave you no choice, I know I wouldnt cut the line great job icing it it would have been a battle

Supposedly in the last year there was a 25.2 lb burbot in lake Diefenbaker in Sask.

The World Record for Burbot is a tie at 25.2 #

Sean Konrad got his in Diefenbaker lake Sask in 2010

Sam Lebeau got his in Peerless lake Alberta in 2015

The record for longest length in Alberta is 106.68 cm Dino Lazaridis 2018

Enter your trophy if you have a tape measure pic of length of fish to AFGA

Hope this helps if you need more info just ask

Back in the mid '70's we used to catch 12-15 pound burbs regularly, while net fishing Cold Lake. Best fish n chips going.
