Trapper Gord's Trading Post in Debolt will be selling beaver carcasses by early April. There will be deep freezes full of them. There should be a couple hundred beavers by mid may at the store. I think they are around $1.00 per pound.

Don't have to, I never use beavers anymore. Can't afford them. But for those that can Gordy is hauling some freezers to his store and will have them stocked up with fresh frozen beavers. He is located along the highway and it is very conveinent for guy's to stop and grab a couple of beavers. A couple have called and placed there orders already. Only for 5 or 6 each but you watch, they will all sell. It is just too handy to stop and grab a few. Most beavers after skinned are around 25 pounds with the small ones around 15 pounds. I will post here in late May and let you know how it goes. How much do you want to bet they all sell.

Why sell them for $8.00 each when you can fetch $1.00 per pound. It is a buisness, not unicef.

Well I think we trappers ought to give this Gordy fellow the shurts off our backs for helping establish such a fine precedent for beaver carcasses. A barrel of beaver for oh $300!!! That's more like it.
Like why not? we are in "Money Alberta".There's far more money floating around in this province than people know what to do with!

bait
KI-UTE: All that these high prices for the carcasses that you used to throw away, are doing is making people go out and shoot their own beaver and feeding fur covered bait??? Why not offer a reasonable priced skinned beaver, rather than having people, waste the hide???

Beaver Bait
Too much emphasise is placed on the ability of beaver in baiting bear,I sell mine at .51 cents a lb, and figure that is reasonable, The problem is some want it kept for them for days , and then don,t show up to pick them up, I live in town and I,m not starting to plug in freezers to keep dead carcasses.
Looking at it from another point of view,
Say you have to go catch ONE Beaver
assuming 50 km round trip
price of gas
time spent initial setting of trap
time spent going to check said trap
Maybe you caught one maybe not
But you guarrantee two trips to finalize
time spent preparing hide,
cost of shipping to auction
price realised when sold likely $12.00 average was $19.00?
Where was the money made?
Why is the price of .51 cents a lbs too much?
This is looking at it from the same perspective of a $50.000 trapline: sHa_sarcasticlol:
Then you can get lucky and go get your own , , But I don,t believe it is legal to use unskinned Beaver for bait, IF it is , IT,s darned unethical IMO.

wow
you alberta guys are getting hosed on your beavers! (no pun intended) I buy them for 5 $ a piece. That includes all the feet and most weigh around that 30-40 lb mark with a few 50 thrown in. I guess supply and demand though eh.

Beavers
Wow. A buck a pound!!!!!
A beaver is a great magnet at the baits, it is nearlt indespensible. If you got beavers, you got bears.
All the other baits will work, at times, but to kill the real big boys consistently, you'll be hardpressed to use anything better than beavers.
But a buck a pound, geeeeeeez. Best thing would be to freeze them solid, then run them through a band saw and cut them into one inch thick "steaks" and use this small morsel at the bait. Really stretch out the supply.
A buck a pound is a rip-off.

Thats expensive bear bait when the trapper catches you shooting beaver on his trapline and turns you in for poaching, and wasting the hides of a fur berring animal.
After an ordeal such as that a buck a pound would be pretty cheap bait.

bait
Where did the $1.00 per lb come from? As far as reading between the lines ? I,m NOT the one looking for bear bait , some of you are! I could give a damn about bear bait , I,m done bear hunting as far as I,m concerned. if you have conspiracy theories going in your skull ,THAT is your problems! Seems like anything that gets posted on here has a hidden agenda according to some individuals! What the hell is wrong with you anyway?
I will be trapping beaver starting tomorrow and the price for those will be $30.00 per lb! $65.00 for castors , and the money generated will go to the terrorists in the middle east , and if they arent home they will go to the terrorist in the back of the east , Middle front , back , don,t give a hoot !
as far as the fur I will donate it to the liberal party so they never run out of eyebrows for IGNATIEF!

There are lots of Resident Trapping opportunities. Not all beavers are on RFMA's

want a real effective bear bait. a neighbor of mine who don`t use garbage cans showed me a perfect bait. seen bear tracks where a bear wouldn`t usually travel walked in to see what was up. bear crossed 600 yds of summerfallow just to steal the dirty baby diapers from the trash at his door. real gross and I`m not sure which part i mean..but if they are willing to get blown away just to steal em must be a potent thing.YUUCK!!not a sick joke guy`s i seen it.
