Exclamation Bank of Montreal Toast

Went to the bank this morning to drop a cheque off.

All ATM's nationally are down. All branches are down. Your debit cards and credit cards won't work. You can't even go into the branch and get cash from a teller.

Been down all morning, and the smokin' hot lady at the branch had no idea when thier system will be back up. They had no information to offer.

BMO online doesn't work either.

So, hope you haven't gassed up with fuel and then went inside to pay....

This explains the woman at Safeway today who's 3 cards wouldn't read at the express checkout. Very red face on her!

I'm headed to BC, spending the night in Fernie tommorrow.

All of my banking is with BMO. At least I'm still in Calgary, and have a bit of gas in my tank, and food in the cupboard. Going to have to mooch lunch money from a co-worker that owes me.

I heard a rumour it has something to do with the east coast storms. You would think a major financial instituition would have backups of backups for thier systems.

My problems are minor compared to thousands of other people who have payments to make etc.

Time to pawn your diving equipment! Or start rolling your loose change

But seriously, this is a good reason to have some emergency cash on hand. Good to have a back up plan if you ever had to head for the hills.

Looks like it might be back up. Can't imagine how many computer nerds are pounding back energy drinks right now at head office.

Reminds me when Shaw went down and ATB was offline for days. Baffles my mind banks don't have backups and backups for those backups.

Good reason to keep a supply of cash handy, and NEVER EVER EVER, only deal with one financial institution. Have credit cards from a couple sources, and ATM/online accessible accounts from a couple more different from the first two. Never hurts to have a spare credit card that has a zero balance to be used only in emergencies.

Learned this the hard way when the Rose thorns at CIBC decided to throw a major boning into me dry.

Never trust a bank, they will all have "computer" glitches occasionally.

X2 on that!! I only and will ever only deal with cash (with the exception of a credit card I use for a very select few things, booking hotel rooms or whatever). The eventual headache with plastic just isn't worth it for me.
