I need a leupold scope ?
Hey guys I just purchased a Browning BLR81 straight grip from a fellow member. I would like to put a scope on it and I would like it to be a Leupold. I like leupolds for their stream line size in other words the occular portion is not so big as others. The warranty and location of their depot.
I currently have a vx3-i 1.5-5x20 on a 444, and a FX3 6x42 on another rifle.
Any way what would you put on this rifle?
Would you get the CDS, B&C or LR retacul on it?
The longest shots I would take is when I hunt elk on private farm land up north where it could be 400-450 yards between fields with no way of cutting the distance. I have never done this, but others in my party have successfully done so.
So what do you guys think if you had this rifle?
Thanks

You didn't mention your chambering but have a good look at Leupold's VX- R 2-7 CDR.

For that rifle, it might be worth looking at some of the Scout offerings from Leupold. I think that a nice match might be the VX-R 1.5-5x33 illuminated.

My choice a 3.5x14x40 V3 with a B&C reticle. Sighted 1.7" high at 100 yards, right on at 200 and only 8" low at 300. The hold over lines will work great for the longer distance Elk. The extra magnification is great for making sure they have 3 points.

I have a few BLRs with three of them having VX-R 3-9x40, 30 mm tube. The soon to be discontinued VX-2 may be my favourite over any with the exception of the VX-R. I use Leupold low QRW rings, or the Leupold one piece base for a mounting system. I'm not that fond of the VX-3 1.5-5x20. Whatever you get used to.

X2 here. These are my favourite scope to use, I must have about 20 of em, with the boone and crocket reticle. Can't beat em.

AFIK , the BDC reticle has default calibrations based on the.308 Win /150 gr trajectory. May be a bonus.

Another vote for this. I have one with the standard reticle and love it. But a B & C reticle might just be your ticket.

I have a couple of vx2 and couple of vx3 3.5x10 and 3.5x14 on a different chamberings.
For 308 I would personally go with vx2 and BDC and lighter 150 or 165 gr bullet.

My favorite scope for hunting rigs is a Leupold VX-2 4 - 12 X 40 AO. It is fairly short and weighs about 10-12oz. And then there is that Leupold warranty. I lost a scope cap this fall, asked Korth about buying a replacement and they sent me two, no charge.

Thanks guys, I will head out this weekend and have a look at the new Leupold offerings in the combo's that you have suggested. I have been watching the buy and sell and not much there and what is I can buy new for a few bucks more.

CDS sucks for a hunting rifle. Found out the hard way. The dial had rotated in my gun scabbard with out my knowledge. I shot over my intened target two times at around 100 yards. Found out at home that the dial had turned 360 degrees. Now I have some black tape holding it but not ideal.

For your BLR I'd mount a glossy fixed 6x or 4x. I have a 4x Leupold on my Win 88/308.
I picked up a VXIII 2.5-8x36 glossy off of here just after Xmas. This was mounted on my CZ 550 FS 6.5x55.
To me, IMO a glossy optic suits a deep rich blued rifle.
A matte scope on matte finished rifle, Each to their own of course.
I know a fixed 4x if interested.

I have the same model chambered in 7mm-08, looking to put a leupold 2-7x36. Currently in search of if someone wants to part with theirs.
