Default August long camping

Anyone know of a place we could likely still find a camp spot for August long? Most places seem to be fully booked already, but I'm hoping someone has some ideas. Preferably a place with a lake and in between Calgary and Edmonton. I would try to get a first come first serve spot, but I can't leave Calgary until 3pm

We wanted to go camping one weekend but EVERYTHING was booked close by. Kept checking the Reserve.AlbertaParks website and you wouldn't believe the number of sites that opened up 3-4 days before the weekend. People book 90 days in advance but plans change and to get most of their money back they cancel. We checked hourly and were able to head out to one of our favorite spots.

Try sites without power hookups and you likely will find a couple free at most places (that's what I do). If not most municipal camp grounds are only half full any given weekend. If not head out to the David Thompson region and you can "Random Camp".
