Never caught them in sask. but caught them a lot back home lots of bottom power hard to get them up. They are scavenger fish larger ones have a heavy mud taste 2-4 lbs are best but better if smoked not fried. and Pat is right dough balls pork liver corn meal balls or big wad of worms

I've been there a few times just for carp. Caught lots of em and big ones too, there are 40+lbs fish to be had if you're lucky enough to fight it to shore. My pb is 28lbs, my dad had two at 32lbs. Big old juicy worm on a forged hook(#2-4)
and a free running rig(braid main line with a mono leader). Set up your rig so it breaks of at the leader not the main line, it will save you a lot of money and frustration with these fish. Fish in the 2lb-10lb range are best for eating, if you keep bigger fish make sure you remove some of the darker belly fat and you're good to go. Taste is same as any carp from Danube i tried eating, very good quality. Marinated then smoked is my preference although fish soup with lots of paprika is also very good.

For best action target them from mid May early June, that is when they migrate into shallows to spawn, if you get into a nice pod of fish they will keep you busy all day long. Night fishing seems to produce bigger fish and is worth the effort if you like that kind of fishing.

I only fished Last Mountain lake and Qu'apelle river.

If you're serious pm me and i'll answer you any questions you might have.

The spring runoff this year flooded over the bridge in Craven, had a friend investigate the area yesterday and that's what he reported back to me.
