Insurance companies do not lose in the long run
Even with catastrophic losses like Slave Lake and Fort Mac there are reinsurers like swiss re, and Aetna to spread global risk.
At the end of the day rates go up to cover claims experience

Switched to them and saved $100 off Aviva Nautimax. Worth a call.

Portside is the cheapest for boat insurance and usually has higher liability coverage than others. Switched from NautiMax and saved a bunch.

You'd better shop around...
Definitely shop around, huge difference in premiums for same coverage in my case.
I ended going with my home insurance, Wawanesa and saved a couple hundred bucks.

Check your policy with Aviva natimax , I noticed a huge change that’s probably going to make me switch. The boats not covered now while being trailered on land.

Various, theft being at the top, incidental damage while using it, liability if you hit a swimmer etc......

Where do you see this on your policy?
Just checked mine and I don't see any specifics on this.

My boat is insured through Co-operators, $800 for $125,000.00 including trailer and gear, not including tackle. Nothing went up this year.

Insurance Tip
Just an insurance tip for anyone that adds your boat to your vehicle or home insurance. If you do make a boat claim that is a strike against your home or auto insurance. In these crazy insurance times it is the last thing you need. We always recommend boats,rv, trailers on a separate policy. You get better coverage separately too. Just trying to make sure you guys know some basics that may save you now and later thst most are not aware of and insurance people may not have mentioned.

I will have a look, it’s said on my renewal I just got that there was important policy changes and that was one of them . I haven’t phoned them yet about this but there’s no way I’m paying the same price and loosing over land coverage.

There’s no liability coverage now while trailering over land.

Fact is, your not paying to insure your stuff....your paying to cover everybody else's losses.
Get used to it because its not going to get any better.

Well it pays to shop around.
Thanks to the tips I just saved $400 by changing to Portside. Same coverage, deductibles etc plus there are NO restrictions as to when I can use my boat. Last policy stated I had to have the Boat in storage from Dec 01 too Mar 31.

So after reading this. I emailed my insurance agent and she is going to check out the changes as she has heard the same thing within the industry. Would strongly advised others to do the same

I will double check to see if that is the case than it’s no big deal, you need to be covered if your trailer broke free and killed people. Worst case scenario
