Depends what exactly you are after, but for a fair price you could look at the bell and Carlson sporter stocks. Prophet River carries them, $400ish...I have one on my .300 WM and like it a lot.

Really depends on your budget. My favorites I own in order are manners EH3, HS precision sporter, and Bell and Carlson ( multiple )
The B and C is the most affordable and work well my only complaint is some of the inletting around the action often requires a little clean up to contact the aluminum block properly or need a lug and skim bed

Grs
If your looking to a combo of long range and hunting Look at the GRS Berserk. Light weight but very ergonomical. Call Scott at Red Star Targets he is a nice guy.

Long action or short Dave.
Are you looking for factory Remington stocks or after market.
I have 1 of each that I'm sell off my new rifles. Both are channelled out for heavy barrel rifles.

I have a couple of Greybull Precision stocks on Remington 700's. They are good stocks for the money. Not as nice as a Wildcat or McMillan but I like them better than the other more popular semi custom stocks. They come finished and inletted, so the install was cheap and easy. Lots of info and reviews about them available online, and a retailer in BC that stocks them and can get one to you quickly.
The channel is for a heavy barrel. I have a Douglas number 3 contour barrel in one and the channel is a little too big for it. Works fine, but looks a little goofy.

You will find what your after, lots of stocks to choose from these days.
Returning to the firearms world has been a eye opener, lucky the folks on AO have some good idea.
After find out some options I check out 2 other top rated forums along with my builder to get things going.
That way I'm getting the best bang for my buck.
I'm long past the day of doing things twice.
At least I hope it works out that way.
Good luck in your quest my friend.

synthetic stock
go online for synthetic rifle stocks--go with the idea of buying locally but also look for what is available in the USA. The MPI, Brownell, Mcmillan are all good stocks but what about your local stock makers. And watch for how much finishing you will have to do..Undoubtedly these are factors you are using. Remember nothing looks as good as wood and nothing shoots like fibreglass.

Call up a few gun plumbers in your neighbour hood. I'd guess there's all sorts of take off Tupperware kicking around at such shoppes.
You could always place a WTB ad too.

Bell and Carlson.

Went this route on a build, 6/284....really happy with the choice from 30 to -30 , hills to swamps no issues at all. Most importantly it fit me and the rifle.
