I have one. Great cartridge specially if you reload. There is a vast amount of 7mm bullets out there and you can work up loads to suit pretty much any north american game. It is my go to gun 95% of the time even though i have bigger and smaller guns to choose from. I have shot everything from gophers to bears with mine and it works everytime.I'm sure the same can be said of many other big game cartridges out there but is my favorite one for sure.

Have had 2 over the years. A rem. 700 S/S DM and a custom mauser 98.
Fantastic round, will probably buy another one some day. Gonna keep my eyes open for a Sako 75 stainless synthetic.

I don't have a 280rem,but I have two 280AI rifles.Both produce 3150fps to 3175fps with 140gr bullets,so they aren't that far behind the 7mmremmag.Accuracy is great,and recoil is mild.

I've had a few of them,..they will usually run a 140 at about 3000fps...a buddy's 22" barrel 280 hardly gets over 2900..all are different. I've built them with the Ackley chamber also, they run 3100-3150ish with a 140.

Think of it as a 270 with a .007" larger bullet diameter and the option of 160-175 grainers.

They aren't a 7 Mag like some owners like to believe, but it's a good cartridge of you want something just a bit different than the average 270 Win...

Not many 280's available in new factory rifles today...

I reckon everyone knows that the 30/06 is a really great big game round.

Necked up to .35 cal a .35 whelen throws a slightly bigger slug a little better.

Necked down to 7mm = 280 Rem.
Necked down to 6.5 cal = 6.5/06 (a pretty hot little number)
Necked down to .277 cal = 270 win.
Necked down to .25 cal = 25/06
I knew a fellow who bought a Ruger single shot in .25/06 and was going to re-barrel it to .243/06 But the 25/06 shot like a dream so he didn't touch it.

.280 is a nice cartridge and the .280 ai is just a bit nicer! I don'y know why but I like the .280 better than the .270 but it's all in my head!

Default 7x 64 Brenneke

I had a 7x64 which is basically the same thing. It was in a Brno and shot great. It had a lot of freebore and I could get 150 gr up to 3100. Best loads though were in the 2950 range. It was virtually a 1 holer at that velocity. The only reason I sold it was because Norma was the only factory ammo and it was hard to find adn expensive. I sold my loading stuff becasue I wasn`t shooting that much after they scaled back the Grande Prairie range. When we had the 500 meter rams I could pound them with regularity. It would knock them over with some authority.

I have used one for 17 years on everything from deer to moose. One of the best rounds going. Better all around cartridge than a .270 in my opinion because of the option of going with a heavier bullet for elk and moose. Nicer to pack around than a 7 Mag and treads on the heels of the seven Mag anyway with a lot less powder and recoil. You better be a handloader though because you usually can't find factory ammo and the selection is limited if you can. Almost endless possibilities if you handload though. My favorite round.

I have one in a Win Mdl 70 lightweight, sweet rifle.

Cooking up some handloads for it, shoots great with factory as well

My customers have had good results with the 280AI. Nosler brass is readily available already formed over and ready to go. Nice thing about the case is you don't have the belt like you do on the 7mm Rem Mag.
