Default Tip for buying Herring.

I was looking for Jack Mackerel at Superstore and they didn't have any. As I was perusing the seafood area, they had fresh Herring for sale right beside the fresh Rainbow Trout. They were just as large as the big frozen ones at the Bait Shops for about $3.25 depending on pkg. weight. There was 7 or 8 in each package. These are fit for human consumption and less than half the price of frozen bait. Go Figure.

Availability can be hit and miss though. One week they have them, the next week no. For the Pike guys, it might be worth it the next time you're at S.S. to look in the fresh fish area to see if they've got any.
