Default Marlin XL7

I'm thinking about getting a 30-06 XL7 when I get my PAL (hopefully before November ends)

Anyone have the XL7? How is it?

Marlin's making a 30-06? This better not be a typo cause I'm getting stoked.

On wholesales website they have a 30-06 option

And I think they had it on the Marlin website, but of course their website isn't loading at the moment

Bought a XS7 in 7mm-08 a couple of weeks ago after lots of research. Only been to the range once but am very impressed with what you get for the money. Recoil pad is good, gun's accurate and I really like the trigger as well.

Good to know. Hopefully the 30-06 model is similar

They have been for a while. They look like a savage, weatherby, and a remington all tied into one rifle. And they come in blued walnut, blued synthetic (black and camo), and blued laminate. heard of stainless models but not likely here in canada yet.

There is a thread on CGN just on these rifles, and they are super accurate right out of the box. Like, wow kinda accurate. Cannot go wrong for the price. They actually look good too. I was thinking of buying one in a .243 for coyotes and sending the stock to get Dipped in a winter camo.

I own one and groups are always .50". The action will be a little rough at first but after a while it will become like butter.

I have a XL7 in 25-06, topped with a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40.
For the price, you won't find anythink better, IMHO.
Great Shooter.

I've got one in 270. It didn't shoot well at firt. I was handloading 130 gr. and tried different bullets and powder and she still wouldn't shoot. I floated the barrel and it still wouldn't shoot. So I then proceeded to break in the bore using Brownell Bore Paste and then loaded up some 140 gr. Accubonds. Low and behold the rifle now shoots Sub MOA. I am now happy with the rifle but let me tell you it was sure frustrating when the rifle wouldn't shoot as well as I wanted.

I had the same experience with my 270. Although I didn't use the bore paste I did free float it and go up in bullet weight. I started with 130's got about a 1.5 inch group. Then moved to the 140gr bullets, got 1.00 inch group, I THEN moved to the 150gr bullet, this is where I got my .50" groups. I have heard of other guys XL7's in 270 shooting extremely with 150's.

I have one in .308 (XS7) and its great so far. All i did to break it in was clean it, fire one, clean it again then use as normal. Tack driver right out of the box using 150gn core lokd factory stuff. Very pleased except that the wife has claimed it for herself lol

2 nit-picky gripes:
- I wish it had a detachable box magazine.
- Stock has a cheap hollow (it is) feel to it and it seemed balanced heavy to the front. I put some modeling clay (kind that doesnt harden) in the butt end of the stock which fixed the issue nicely.
