Default Practicing up with new ammo at a new range

I'm going to to be going whitetail hunting myself again this year, hopefully to get my first buck. I'd like to get more practice in with my .300 Win Mag and the new scope, and Genesee is looking like the most promising range by Devon (where I live.) I see according to previous posts that only the 100 yd ranges and less are open, which would be more than sufficient to for me to practice up for the season. I understand there's a good chance for some privacy there, which would be a really cool enviormnent to practice in. Any truth in that? Also, what is the CHAS policy on bringing a friend, just to watch.

I've only experimented with the Federal PowerShok 180 gr, and a few rounds of the Remington Core-Lokt 180 gr. Within the range of what I'm actually targeting deer in (0-200 yds), what would you guys recommend for a gr. size, and brandwise? I've been hearing around 165 gr. is a good one. Any opinions would be great.

165 would be a good choice and so would a 180 the trick is with magnums you have to use premium bullets (ones that don't explode on impact) and to shoot behind the shoulder not through it.

Good Luck
Mike
