Default .270 cartridge advice

I'm shooting a Tikka T3 .270 and decided to go to a 150 grain bullet from 130's. I shot a box of Remington core-lokt and got some disappointing results - 2.5 inches high @ 100 yards and 5 inches low @ 200 yards. This seems kind of ridiculous to me - my groupings were within 1.5 inches.

I'm going to go back to the range later this week with a couple of different brands. I was shooting winchester 130's about 1.5" high @ 100 and zeroed @ 200. All the ballistic tables I check indicate I should be getting groupings close to this using 150's. Is this simply that my gun doesn't like the remingtons?

Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

ummmm....that makes no sense to me there boss. There is no way that you should be dropping 7.5" over 100 yds with that cal.......maybe they forgot to put powder in the cases

Id just chalk it up to a bad load for your gun and caliber and go back to what works. Ive never seen anyone have problems killin with 130's in a 270

x2 ESPECIALLY if you are still shooting 1 1/2" groups. Sounds like still a high level of consistency between rounds. Wonder if something slipped in the shooting or calculation department. I don't think there is .270 ammo of any sort produced anywhere that you need to shoot more than a couple inches high at 100 to zero at 200 (I shoot 150gr ammo from my .270). The remington site says 2 inch holdover at 100 for a 200 zero with that ammo. Shooting 2.5" high and getting 5" low doesn't sound like "gun not liking that ammo".

Yikes! something wierd there. My Ruger .270 doesn't like 150gr bullets all that much either. Shoots almost everything 130 well but opens up with 150gr bullets. Have tried 6 - 8 different 150 grain bullets and keep going back to 130s. with a tough bullet (Nosler partition / Barnes tsx) I dont feel under gunned and if i do my job they will do theirs!

the .270 150 coreloc loads are usualy round nose bullets and do drop suprisingly fast at greater ranges but what your talking about is pretty severe. I'd try somthing else.

Default similiar results with mine

i had factory ammo too in my 270 tikka 3 and it didnt like the remingtons either. accutip i think. all the money i spent on expensive bullets researching which bullet it liked finally prompted me into handloading. i learned how to on that rifle. i got 2 loads now for 130 and 150 and it likes them both. but i cant remember how much the POI was different/significantly lower for the rem. it was all 130 gr stuff too. but my t3 didnt like the rem ammo.just get someone to handload it for you and youll be smiling

My gun shoots the remingtons well and I like the bullets but the 150's dont have the flat tradgectory that you come to expect from the .270. Very good performance on moose with the 150's, dont know why they only load RN bullets in 150 for the .270.

Default 150 grain 270

I havent used factory ammo for many years but have shot many head of game with the Nosler 150 grain partition ahead of 56 grains of IMR4831. With a 3" high at 100 yards setting I am 2" high at 200 and 4"low at 300,12"low at 350. I killed a 202 B&C Moose in Northern BC in 2008 at a lasered 368 yards with this load. My oldest son killed a Zebra stallion at long range ( no range finder- probably in the 400 yard range) in Namibia with this load in May of this year. Try it!
