Default John deere snowmobile parts

This is a long shot but looking for a 79-83 John deere 440 trailfire parts sled or even just parts. Central alberta ideally. I can find some stuff online but figured I would look locally first.

There is a place by Rimbey called either Sled Parlour or Snowmobile Heaven.

At the time of the snowmobile boom in the 70's everyone was building sleds.
Outfits like John Deere, Rupp, etc, that are now long gone. I suspect that John Deere being John Deere, put green pain on someone else's engine. You may be able to cross match parts.

Sled parlor is by Carstairs. I've been looking at a similar sled as a winter project and decided it's not practical. These things are orphans, rare because sales were low, that's why they were discontinued, but the attached article mentions Deere went to a Kawasaki engine.

Snowmobile heaven by Rimbey is now sadly gone. I believe you can cross reference as these machines were as mentioned above just another brand with John Deere paint and stickers. Suzuki or Kawasaki engines depending on model.

My dad has a John Deere sled. I think he'd sell it. Getting it out of the shed will be a challenge.

I own a couple JD snowmobiles, 340
Spitfire and 440 Sportfire. Other family members have a few as well including a rare Trailfire Canadian Special, usually make one vintage trip out to the lake.

So, what's it like getting engine parts for these sleds? The one I'm thinking of has been used very little but sitting in a shed for over 30 years. thinking the engine would need going through mostly, for lack of running.

I have a couple JDX4 with the 340 CCW engines in them. Not sure if you can get parts for them anymore.

Parts can be found on Ebay and various sled wreckers. Engine parts are compatible with many Kawasaki snowmobiles, and seem to be more common.
Nothing better then pulling up at the lake on a vintage JD machine.

If you look around, many of the parts can still be found.

Back in the 1970s, my family had a John Deere dealership, so I grew up riding and racing John Deere snowmobiles. They were actually very competitive in cross country racing in 1975/76. Then John Deere closed the small dealerships, so we just repaired their products. My last John Deere snowmobile was a 1976 Liquidator, which was their limited production cross country racing snowmobile.

That Liquidator will fetch $10,000 today if it’s in nice condition. Vary rare and sought after snowmobile.
