I do not understand. They blew a hole in a beaver dam and put it on the internet?

Great...now wait for the copycats...if this was just for a lark, what an asinine thing to do...even when dams are taken out due to pipelines or such the trapper has to be notified...hope the trapper catches them.

This may actually have been a organized thing as opposed to a bunch of yahoos out for a lark.
I don't think the drone magically appeared there, and I also don't think it was a random thing with no one being notified , there were lots of people in the video.
I could be wrong however.

Last year I watched something very similar unfold right by my place. Apparently the beavers were a "nuisance" so Parkland County trapped them and blew the dam up. The irony is in the fact that the surviving beavers moved half a mile downstream and made a new dam! They also cut down around an acre of mature poplars essentially destroying a nice upland area where a few Ruffed Grouse used to live.

I'd say the guys in coveralls were with a contracting company there to blow the dam and the guys with the florescent jackets that tried to walk through the densest part of the tree's when there was a perfectly good walking trail beside it were from the government. The guy with no coveralls or high vis jacket was probably the land owner.

Looks official given the outfits people are wearing. Likely no brook trout or brown trout spawning habitat given the timing.

Looks like fun

lmao, pesky little b#€tards

On a brighter note, the beavers are chomping down dozens of trees in Vancouvers Precious Lord Stanley's Park , ,

But the granola crunching urbotards in charge of the city park have elected to enhance the closeness of nature provided by the destructive little rodents and let them continue cut down the trees ,,,,

The new name of the former Stanley Park ,,,,,, Urban-Stumpville Park,,,

Park motto " no useless rodents were harmed in the construction of this grotesque wastełand "

Yes- I'm no beaver expert but for sure they like to RECOLONIZE from what I hear and often travel great distances to do that.

I live in Morinville and I trap in Sturgeon County. I'm not sure why people would be so quick to think that this is some sort of Eco terrorism (lol) by a bunch of yahoos. Beavers are a problem here and it costs a ton of money to unplug culverts, and drainage ditches, normally done with heavy equipment like track hoes.

I'm fairly sure that I know where this was because pretty much the whole County is farmland except for that area. I noticed that the river(?) actually had water running through it and not all dried out like in previous years.....I guess that I know why now. A dam that size would cause flooding.

I know that the County Trapper takes beaver out of this area but obviously with a dam of that size he can't keep up with them. This area looks like a fantastic opportunity for me, thanks!

Yup, busting the dam will do nothing to control the beaver population but that open dam won't cause them to move any different than they normally would. Guaranteed that hole in the dam would be fixed very quickly. Busting the dam accomplishes nothing without trapping the beaver to control the population.

Looked to me like it was done by some company that for whatever reason needed that water flowing or might have been having flooding problems upstream. Seemed pretty well organized, with a good sized work crew. Might even have been govt. official observers in that group. Also I'm betting that the pics were shot from a helocoptor not a drone.
Hard to say who, what or why without more info.

Very well said, I have witnessed west lock and Athabaskan counties rip dams out for them to be rebuilt within days due to lack of trapping.

It was shot with a drone. Says so right on David Kluthe's youtube account. He uploaded it. He's also chair of the ASB, so I'm guessing it was pretty legit and all necessary permits were taken out.

Are you offering to do the work for a $20 pelt?
Blowing the dam is a hell of a lot cheaper than paying ADC work.
