anyone hunt out in 446? Looking to maybe spot and stalk black bears or pull my moose draw this year. going to do some scouting obviously but any advice would be appreciated.
There's more grizzly than black bear, but it is definitely worth going to scout at the same time. Don't expect too much, game density is very low, it's a caribou zone, the goberment wiped out everything to "save" the caribou.
446 has very low moose numbers the last 5 years and the grizzly and wolf population is through the roof. Had a moose tag there last year hunted a total of 27 days in some rough country far off the main trails only to see a couple small bulls. Never did fill the tag
Much of the zone (particularly around the mine where the alfalfa is knee high) is accessible to trucks and ATV’s so the subsistence hunters hit it hard. Last time I was there we also saw a big G bear and a pack of wolves. I’ve heard that the sheep hunting has absolutely went in the toilet also.
