His magazine probably got more people travelling alberta than any million dollar travel ministry. Before the internet that magazine was a must for those wondering about lakes and new to the province.

Internet or not, it's still my best map resource. Try plugging half the lakes into google, and you'll be disappointed! 2014 was my first year of fishing and I clung to that book like a trophy...and it helped guide me to catch every species in Alberta! Barry Mitchell definitely had a hand in inspiring me to become the fishing addict I now am, and am truly grateful for his accomplishments and publications. I am sad to hear he is gone and can only hope he is fishing that ultimate stream in the sky - he will definitely be missed.

His magazine inspired me to start fishing. Cudos to him and all he accomplished. His writing was superb. Felt like an old friend just reading his tips. RIP and thanks for the unselfishness

Sorry to hear of Barry's passing and my condolences to the family. I am sure I bought every edition of the fishing guide and read anything I could find that he had written. I certainly envied his lifestyle, he lived a good life from what I know of him, never having met him in person. RIP

Truly a terrible loss,he helped me through my "where to fish days" and I still watched closely for his new magazine in the spring.my condolences to his family.

Indeed a sad day. The province has lost a truly great Albertan. I've echoed these comments elsewhere, but it bears repeating that his kindness and generosity will not ever be forgotten. I have bought the AFG for 28 years and ordered back issues because of his willingness to share his knowledge.
I hope either the province or angling community can get together and figure out a way to recognize his legacy and contributions. I'm sure Barry would eschew such a spotlight, but it's well deserved.
