Default quest for monster walleye turned into a pike frenzy!

The shacks were full on Sat, so my father-in-law decided to make the short trip up north to Utik to try to find some 10 lb walleye.

We tried four different spots and never found one single walleye.

But I could not believe the pike! That lake is teeming with gators!

It was consistent all day long, and all really nice fish. No monsters but when you catch 30 or more pike like this, you can't really complain! I think we may have caught two or three under 5 lbs. Its a shame I didn't have the camera unpacked yet, cause my father-in-laws first fish of the day ( literally 5 minutes in ) was the biggest of the day, but it was really cold with the wind and we wanted to get her back in quick, so no picture.

I told him on the way home "its too bad we were so focused on trying to find walleye, cause if we were out for pike, this would have been the best day ever!"

Great day on the ice with good company.

Great pictures, sounds like you guys were on top of them. Nothing wrong with steady Pike action like that!

Right on! One time at Utik i drilled a hole scouting outside shore of the island, dropped a jig down blind to check the depth and a 6lber hit it before it hit bottom.. Lol, was a start of a good day! Ended up finding a few walleye as well!
