Was thinking about trying my luck at crawling on wed. How's the ice there now? Also what are some good spots I've only gone during the summer by the campsite. I would appreciate any advice and help. Also what are some good methods and setups that work well for ice fishing.

Posted in another thread but I'll post here as well. This is Cold Lake taken from the beach in town. Put the augers away and bring the boat!

MacGregor is odd along the wall,, we fished where ice was 12 inches, however a bit further over it was 10 then 8 inches then about 5 then 8 and its heaving feirce,, gorgeous day until exactly 2:00pm when the wind kicked in and a cloud right from the movie The Mummy started to hedge up on the horizon but then noticed it more over Nanton way but the wind almost blew us into the ditch several times on the drive back.

Does Travers south-east arm has any ice north form the boat ramp?
Wanted to explore a bit after the New Year, but suspect that ice is not safe with this weather

Dec 26 hit Shurburne real early in case it was no good and we could hit some other spots. Sketchy looking ice (boat launch and canal), slowly went out to 10ft of water, maybe 4inches of ice and the water from the hole was coming onto the ice, not cool with me so we left (I soooooooo wanted a feed of perch!!). Last year this time we were driving on 18-20". Wow what a different winter so far. Drove to Scandia Bay at Newell, saw one guy with his truck on the ice by the mouth of the bay, drilled a hole in the bay, 10" of good ice. Then drove to Badger, about 8-10 other people there (most people on the west side from launch to causway). We went to the north end, 8-10" of decent ice, really clear in spots so you could see the weed beds out there. Set up holes for me and my kid around the one weed bed. My Dad stuck to the cloudier ice to hide from the fish better. My kid and I landed 8 pike, biggest being 8lbs. We took three home (4-6lbs). All cubed up and ready for the deepfrier. Dad didn`t end up landing any fish, a couple bites but tht was it. I gave him and my son first crack at grabbing my tip ups when they went, but Grandpa was nice and let his grand son take first dibs! Plan to head out tomorrow again. Just trying to decide where to go.
