Default Tikka is Ready!!

Well, i finally got home for a calm evening and got through my first set of reloads for my tikka in 270WSM. I really like my own loads so far. I tried 64-66grains of H4831 (130gr bullets) and managed 1/4'' groups at 100yrds with the 64 and 65gr offerings. The 66gr loads didn't even group an inch, kind of interesting to see the variation but i will probably be loading up a bunch of 65gr powder loads for my hunting come early September. Other neat thing is my loads shot a half inch higher at a hundred than my factory 150's (and about 1/4'' tighter). This was my first experimenting away from factory loads so now i have my medium size game load (deer, sheep). Just need to get a little bigger premium bullets from wholesale and work on a moose load before September 25th. If anyone has a reccomendation for a good moose bullet in 150 gr let me know, otherwise i may still just use our old 30-06 with 180 gr bullets (I'm thinking nosler partitions).

Which 130 gr bullets are you using jrs? I can't help you with the 150gr bullets, I've been working on loads for 140gr accubonds and 140gr TSX's, found a decent load for the TSX's but haven't found a good combo for the accubonds yet.... if the TSX's perform good during hunting season I won't worry about the accubonds, though.

I'm just trying remington core-lokt bullets in 130gr so far. Performance seems good so far so they get a chance this fall. I may try a 140gr load for moose as well. I have to see what wholesale has in stock as the supply of a few brands and makes has been poor.

Default 140gr Bullets

The performance of 140gr Accubonds on elk and moose for the 2004/05/06 seasons, I will have to say you do not need the 150gr bullet for moose. Stick with the 140gr for all the big game in your 270WSM. I was going to try a 150grainer but after the past few hunting season results I wont.

My wife's moose last season was taken with her Tikka T3 LS 270WSM with 140gr Accubonds @ 325m double lung complete pass-thru. She shot the bull twice as I did not want the bull to make it into the timber, but the 1st shot was a kill shot.
