Oilers have the same problem as at the beginning. They were not playing with heart or confidence. They weren’t the team that wanted the puck the most. Blame goal tending or McDavid or whom ever… however they win as a team or lose as a team.
Best way to shut Matheson up is to play better. McDavid has been invisible and not sure why. I’d do an experiment as coach and bench McDavid and Draisaitl for poor play. See how the team rallies without them.

I kind of figured the flamers must have won a game seeing all the flaming toilet seat fans pop up on the Oilers thread recently. lol
With any luck we can return the favor in the next week or two

You got a feel sorry for the flame fans. They're playing in a dump, the city is in turmoil. Like their city they have weak leadership. They keep recycling coaches, should see Kennan behind their bench soon....

Calgary could only dream of having a team like Edmonton, with strong team leadership and no coaching changes, and having a winning season that will be historical for its success.

I disagree. Seems like more thin skin Syndrome. If a million dollar superstar hockey player and legions of fans can’t stomach a reporters leading questions about sub standard play we all agree is happening… then isn’t that a sad state of affairs.

They can only improve from here.
They found the path to winning once… they should be able to do it again.

So what would you have said when put in the spot what the number one reason for losing is?
Keep in mind they want you to be specific.
Would you have said defence is weak?
Third and fourth line can’t contribute?
Our goaltending is weak?
Not overall….. they are asking the numbering one reason…..

As I've said..it was a loaded question and
Matheson knew it.....it's no wonder the guy has had zero respect from the players over the years

He should have said, "It sure as hell isn't my fault or Connors. You're the smart guy, you figure it out, then let management and coaching know, you clever dick reporter."
That would have been perfect answer.

Agreed. Media is just as bad as the players. If he answered the question truthfully and said, our goalies suck, coach seems dismal and our bottom six are brutal…. He would have fried him for tossing his team mates under the bus. That’s why you get the crappy canned answers from the players

As I mentioned earlier, the answer was simple.
Our opponents are scoring more goals then we are.
No one getting thrown under the bus and in reality would have made the reporter look like an idiot.
Or he could have said ask Tippet, he likes to throw people under the bus, I prefer to stand by my teammates.

He paraphrased....
All I know is, they need to pull off a win tonight or the poop is going to fly even more.

Yep, no Oiler is losing tonight... unless Kane is in town and they are headed to the Casino for some team building.

Actually, I am becoming a flames fan. Oilers fan since 78. However work ethic instilled by Sutter, what I appreciated in a team. The flames will make the playoffs. What happens after, is up to the players. Oilers management isn’t the issue. How many coaches last 20 years? The players need to win hockey battles (draws, checks, cycling, passes, bounces, back checking, shots, everything, need confidence).

Oilers management is in charge of hiring and or acquiring players and coaches to do those things. They are failing. It most certainly does fall on managements shoulders. It all starts from the top down.

Huh. For some reason, I thought they played tonight.
Ok, they better win tomorrow!

Oilers missed landing this deal in the late 80’s
Would of loved to see him in an oil jersey.

We are not playing as a team. To win the whole team needs to be first on the puck, taking lots of quality shots or setting up deflections, blocking shots and protecting the net. We need to be playing a playoff style two way hockey game. We need to be focused and driven in our play. We have been there this season but we’ve lost it. Is it mental or skill some would ask and I would drive home the mental side has not been there. Some of us who purport to be leaders need to drive home hard that we are all winners, working together, pulling more than our weight, supporting each other so that mistakes, when they happen, don’t cost us a game. We are all human however we are all here, on the ice, being paid significant salaries to perform at an elite level. Whining and complaining won’t get us better.
