+1 on the kijiji idea.

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/c...ationFlag=true

There's one in Brooks for a pretty good deal. This is the route I'm planning on going for the fall season, although I'm planning on using a tarp and sticking a bear in my Ford Focus' trunk this spring season.

A few weeks ago there was a useful thread on dragging your game behind a vehicle - maybe try that until you get a truck.

There nothing wrong with "renting" my vehicle to anyone. It's mine, I do with it what I want.

My buddies and I trade toys all the time. I can tell you that if I broke a friends truck and didn't fix it, I would probably be typing with my nose because my fingers wouldn't work so good. Exactly the way it should be.

I'm sure that a lot have.
VW beetles used to make great hunting buggies.

Just gotta make sure the darn thing is dead before you sling it into the back...unlike a certain local legend round my home town.

I wouldn't rent a pick-up for hunting.
Even if you also purchase the insurance.... I wouldn't trust it to cover ALL that could happen.

Besides... like someone else said.... you could probably find a beater for less.

Thanks for the input.
I did a search. So far I haven't found anything under $70/day,but I'll do another search again.

You asked the original question, so people will respond.
What type of replies do you want ?
You want people to offer you their truck to rent with no responsibility ?
Good luck.

Again you seem to imply a reply that questions your motives of limiting your liability as being an angry reply.

So are you saying that you weren't asking in the original post whether you'd be legally liable for damage you do to a borrowed or privately rented vehicle? Because that's how I read it. And that's pretty messed up. It shouldn't matter.

Please explain yourself. I was not insulting you, just pointing out what most others seem to think about your initial post.

You initially posted that you want to rent a private vehicle because according to your insurance company, you would not be liable if you damaged the vehicle.

What do you think would be a good solution if you damaged a vehicle due to your actions? You seem to imply that you don't think you should be responsible because the insurance is not in your name. This seems like a pretty poor attitude. I hope we all are mistaken.

I think this is just a misunderstanding. I just politely posted a thread.Said insurance company said that.I wanted to know if it is true. Now,I just know
that I shouldn't rent a truck.End of story.

Have a good night

Call budget in sherwood park. They have a 4x4 GMC Canyon with a wooden box in the back they rent out. Think it was 30 bucks per day last year but rate might have went up. Either way your only using it for a week. Take into consideration that a similar vehicle would have you paying 5-800 dollars per month in car payments+maintenance and the 2-6 hundred per week doesn't seem to bad if thats all you use the truck for during the year.

Thank you for clarifying this. Too bad it took 2 pages.

There is nothing wrong with renting a truck. The problem comes down to liability and the costs associated with that liability. As others have suggested, look around for a cheap vehicle on Kijiji, as it may be cheaper in the long run with less worries about liability.

Also have you given any thought to using a quad to get into the bush and then you could just pull a trailer? Then it really would not matter what kind of vehicle you used, as you would not need to take it off road.

Yea Kijiji can be alright but I'd expect to pay at minimum 3 grand to get a truck reliable enough to go out to the middle of no where with it.

I've been pretty lucky over the years with buying beaters. But then again I am fairly handy fixing things, and do have some experience in looking at things and knowing what to look for as tell tail signs of problems. And then it also does come down to some luck as well.

Your suggestion about Budget in Sherwood Park sounds like a pretty good deal if it is just for a couple weeks hunting. Even if you did it a couple times a year, it may be cheaper over time.

However I think everyone can agree that once you get a truck, you find many uses for it, and when you sell it, it is always the one type of vehicle you wish you still had.

Yep I've got 3. Couldn't live without a truck.
